  • Want to hit the 14's

Hey guys,i have a 1996 camaro 3.8 5 speed, first time at the track i only made one pass unfortunately, the car had an intake, alum D/S and 3.23 lsd and my time was 15.5 @89.1 with a 2.321 60 ',another time i ran with stock wheels and some extra weight 75 lbs and ran 15.6 @91.7 this time i kept it in 3rd,the first run i shifted to 4th,my gears are setup so i either have rev it a bit high or shift into 4th.i want to hit 14's and now the car has:pro 5.0 shifter,3:23 LSD,alum D/S,headers & full exhaust,K&N CAI and accel coils and wires. what times should i be runing, and any advice for what rpms to launch at,clutch dump or ride it a bit? Need some advice.oh and stock clutch(sucks)

i ran 14.9 with the same mods you have, but what size tire are you running? when i had 3.23's i didnt need to go into 4th till around 105mph, so you shouldnt have had to go into 4th

Yeah this doesn't sound right for stock tires/tranny and 3.23s. I believe it is closer to 85 or 90. Must have been something different with your car.

OP, you need to get those 60s down to have any chance at 14s. Work on your launch/ get stickier tires.
        Old Car = 12.679 @ 106.5 on 150 dry shot.
        New Car = 2010 3.6l 304hp Camaro

i have 275/40/17 on my car, now that i have 3.73's i have to go into 4th at 90, but with 3.23's i could go till 105, i also had my revlimiter at 6200

edit- 60' for sure needs to go down, get it down to atleast a 2.0

run on a 15" rim and tire...that will help shave the rotational mass, which is HUGE...

Actually, with the tire size he listed and 3.23 gears he should be right at 104-105 in 3rd at 6200. With 245/45/16s and 3.23s I'm hitting 96-97 at 6k in 3rd. The taller gears do hurt acceleration, but the fact that you can run 135+ in 4th gear in a V6 makes it hurt a little less :D I would love to find enough room to see how far it would wind in 5th - I would bet 165-170 is possible.

To the o/p - I would think gears would be one of the first things you would want to look at. 3.73s or even 4.10s should make a noticeable difference in times - might get you close to 14s with just that.

ahha, i got to 135 in 4th gear easily, i also wondered how high it would go in 5th, but that seems dangerous lol

letzride-i trapped 94 doing 14.9 a while ago, so with the new mods it might be possible

Did you run 14.9s with the old 3.23s, or the 3.73s?
