    2. Shouldn't have any issues running a few minutes on just battery.

In AZ a reg. batt will last 2-3 years, a Optima here will last 8-10 years, the heat kills the batteries and Alt. here. my last Optima lasted over 8 years, took it out of my one vehicle and put it in the Camaro and it finally died when after I gave it to my ex-wifes brother who ran it on his boat. Thay are worth the investment, my wifes grand am went through 2 bateries , both interstate batteries with in 4 years we had it, the pro rating sucks on the checker /auto zone battteries it was still like $60 to replace it. Could have bought a $140 Optima Batt. and been done. The red tops last very well here with the heat, never tried the yellow tops here, but they are for colder states.

I had a 14 year old Interstate battery that was pulled out of my Firebird last year, came with my Monte Carlo when I got it in 2004, and was already 9 years old then. Took it out of the Monte, put it in the Firebird, ran till Nov. of last year. It was a 60 month battery that expired in 2001, and I managed to get almost 9 more years out of it, in two different cars, 110,000 miles between both.

I can see a use for a gel filled battery in certain cases. Race purposes where safety is an issue with a leaking battery, or in cases of extreme and constant heat. But I cant think of a use outside of that to pay double the price for a battery.

        Re: Pulling the belt

like I said, I just wanted it because it was gel, and I don't have to worry about mounting it in the back...I dont want battery acid spilling on anything, or risking the fumes going into the car from the trunk/spare tire area...otherwise I woulda just bought a regular battery...I'm cheap lol. Plus I don't have a sound system anymore, so as long as the battery can start the car, I would be impartial to what I could use.

bahaha...fwiw guys I pulled the belt at the house and drove it around the block and shut it down and fired it up a few times...the needle just sat at the tip of the redline and didnt move...so looks like there is plenty of juice in it...
