I just got my Harlan shiftlight and I was wondering what rpm does everyone have theirs set at? I was thinking of setting it to 5900rpm (since I make peak hp at 5750rpm), but I was concerned that it may be too close to the rev limiter and by the time I shift it's already hit 6K. Ideas please...

I set mine for my first gear shift, which I shift out of early so I don't spin so bad going into second. I was at about 5250 when I had my crappy tires, but now with my much wider Kumhos, I'm not real sure where to set it. I'm thinking somewhere around 5400, maybe 5500. My rev limiter stops the revs at around 6000, but I can definately feel it "fading in" around 5800. Maybe mine's just odd like that. What do the harlan lights set with? Is it pills like the autometer? Just bring whatever you got to the track on Saturday. We'll get ya all set. [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

Thanx Travis. No, it doesn't set w/ pills. It has little switches in the back that you set to a specific RPM. It's adjustable in 100rpm increments

well since i can't get a dyno over 5g's and can't figure out what the best is i'm going to start at about 5300 and experiment from there. that is if i ever get off my lazy *** and install it. you make your peak much higher i'm sure though so i think you're prolly about spot on. really you need to break out the calc and dyno sheet and start doing some math to find optimun shiftpoints.

I have an A4.. so your going to have to convert my results.. but just FYI..
Last time at the track, I did some T&T. I changed shift points with the SCU2000. I hit 92.5mph or so shifting the car as LATE as possible. On passes where I shifted 300 RPM or so earlier on every shift, I lost 1mph.

Thanx guys. I just went to the track yesterday and it seems that 5800rpm was right on the money. By the time I shift, it's real close to the rev limiter. infact, I hit the limiter in first, even w/ the light

On my last dyno I unplugged the speedo sensor in the back drivers side of the tranny AND the ABS ring sensor on top of the rear axle. First time I have ever dynoed to redline. [img]smile.gif[/img] I think the key is to unplug BOTH sensors, I ran with just the tranny sensor unplugged before and was still hitting the speed limiter.
My shift light is set at 5700, I don't want to pop the rev limiter on nitrous, that might get ugly. ;) Give yourself about 200 rpm's to react to the light and shift.

No no, by unplugging those 2 sensors you eliminate the top speed limiter, not the rev limiter. On the dyno in 4th gear (manual) you will hit the speed limiter around 115 or so before you hit the rev limiter. So we have never been able to dyno upto redline. The speed limiter kills the fuel about 5K.
