• Track Results ...

Finally made it to a 1/4 track with many of the Venom crew. This was the opening day for the track and it was packed with a near record turnout .... at least 375 cars racing and probably over 400. The wait in the staging lanes was 1.5 - 2 hours between runs, an I only got in three runs.

Track conditions were good ... temps hovering between 45 and 50 all day, clear at first and then overcast later in the day.

Was running on drag radials for the first time with no opportunity to test-n-tune on them before today, and it shows in my times ... yeah it's the driver! I've gotta get some time in practicing launches on these tires, 'cause I'm sure not at optimal yet.

Was hoping to break into the 14's, but was disappointed ... my best run today was

15.156 @ 91.63mph w/ 60' of 2.377 and 1/8 of 9.763 @ 72.13mph

Didn't even beat my personal best 60' or 1/8 ET's (on street tires) at the 1/8 track I run at locally (yet).

Well, time to get down to work and get the launch down ... I'll get into 14's soon :D

mph is there for 14's
What drag radial were you using?
I run nitto's and I find that 32 psi n/a works really well
Street tires to 30 psi worked well even with nitrous
Do you have a full 1/4 mile timeslip like 60 ft, 330, etc etc etc?
Practice will get you into the 14's

Yeah ... the full slip is as follows:

R/T: 0.776
60': 2.377
330': 6.359
1/8: 9.763
MPH: 72.13
1000': 12.691
1/4: 15.156
MPH: 91.63

I was running on BFG Comp TA's, 235/60/15 with 22 psi first pass (15.211 @ 91.39 mph) and 15 psi on the last two passes (posted pass 2nd ... last pass 15.286 @ 91.78 mph). I don't have line locks so heating up the tires was a one time deal (the starter frowned on repeat burnouts since they were SO many cars there today). I don't think I got them really hot enought to stick well.

My first launch was a 2000 rpm launch and I actually hooked pretty good (good enough to bog ! ). My second launch was at 2800 rpm and was my best pass, but I didn't feel like I hooked as well as the first pass, and still had some wheel spin. My third pass was a 1200 rpm launch, and I didn't hook at all ... wheel spin all through 1st.

(FYI ... the second pass was run against a Camaro SS, and I pulled on him outta the hole, through 600' and then it was all over ... surprised me, I'll tell ya')

James, any tips you could give would be appreciated ... I know the car has the muscle for 14's, and maybe I just need more practice, but I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks,

Steve

Are you running street tires?
If yes, from what I've learned 30 psi in the rear and 40 up front always worked really well for me.
I used nitrous (120 shot) and hooked with this set up.
I did a quick snap of the tires, no more than 5 seconds of spinning, and then staged
For that 60 ft it seems like you bogged or spun.
Couple more times down the track and you will be in the 14's
Try that tire psi and see what happens

No ... this was the first time on drag radials for me. Played with tire psi and launch rpms, but could only get in three runs with 2.5 hours between runs 'cause it was so crowded.

Gonna install Hurst Roll control line lock this week and take it to the local 1/8 to work on launches on the drag radials.

I'm GONNA hit 14's soon ...
