  • Attaining a 14?

I'm sure we'd all like to think that perhaps at a certain 1/4 mile time, or a certain SOTP feel we'd like to call ourselves "happy" and quit with our power mods - and while that is almost not ever true for ...well, any of us, I'd like to think that'd I'd be happy with a 14 flat 1/4 mile time.
At this point I'm just asking what'd it take to attain that magical number (All the while keeping gas mileage and reliability in mind for my daily driver). I'd also love to keep it N/A - but I can see where that might not be possible. I really can't convince myself to run happy gas either.
    What I Have:
    '02 Camaro T-5
    SLP CAI. K&N. Whisper Lid. 3" Exhaust (I-Pipe as well). 3:42, Zexel-Torsen. Also STB and 275/45 F1s.

I have yet to run at the track with the camaro.

    I appreciate any input.

I have a daily driver also... Only car I have.
I'm sure I'll have to change my gears to 3.42 and have drags/LSD/make a custom Y pipe to attain my 13.9-14 flat 1/4 time all motor w/o super six. I can wish can't I? Hell 95.5 MPH trap speed and 14.7 ET is pretty damn good for open rear run don't you think?

      Most definately.
I saw your other post and about crap my pants with glee.
I wish my track would hurry and open up that way I could see what's possible with what I have. I would also like to compare times with you since we both seem to have the same goal here with the same limitations - ie daily driven, budget minded - not to mention we both have 5 spds.

SuperSix is my last resort. Especially that being my car is brand new and I'd like to ride that warranty out as long as possible (since I kinda paid for it and all). I'd also like to see some others on the board get equipped with it to be the guinea pigs as well. And if I could get 14/13.9 w/o it - then as far as I'm concerned - Id be satisfied (well maybe not, but Id have to be considering im in College).

But no matter what happens I cant have any question in my mind over reliability (no blown gaskets or thrown rods) or gas mileage (I can baby it if I need to, but that mileage still needs to be there!)

So, what do you think we need next? Besides your gears and LSD - Headers? Y-Pipe?

I have yet to have any computer upgrade - I e-mailed Jet and found out the jetchip is available for my year - think I should go for that(you like yours..?)?

Yeah its pretty easy install as far as JET module goes. Its actually a bolt on mod. I don't think 2k-up model 3.8s needs headers though... Or its necessary. I went under the car and looked, all I see that is restrictive to the exhaust is the stock Y pipe. Although I wouldn't mind trying CIA headers for this car. Who knows? I might gain another .1-.2 sec off of this mod or not again at all. Its kinda scary to think spending 600 bucks for the headers and it won't be a cost effective.

Did you notice any gains from the Jet + 160 T-stat?

As for the headers - yea, that's what I'm scared of. CIA also makes a Y-Pipe. Do they sell it separate I wonder...?

            I noticed a HUGE difference.
As for the headers, CIA sell the headers with the Ypipe. The Y pipe will not fit the stock exhaust manifolds coz they designed the Y pipe mainly for their headers.

That's great to hear on the JetChip, I'll have to give them a call.

And on the Y-Pipe.. yea I wasn't even thinking.
As for the headers... I will have quite a bit of money rolling in within the next month so I may have to seriously consider the CIA setup.

As for your 1LE driveshaft - what's your impression on it - seem to make a difference? Any vibration?

i dont know how you do quotes, but i just wanted to say voiding the warrany can be addictive.
first was the intake- no real void there. then the exhaust with removal of the cat and addition of a cutout. oops then the torque converter. oops oops now the power pack double oops oops. at least they might fix my window if the motor goes bad. bought in aug 2000 and already has 30000 miles and practically no warranty
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

The car revved easier. There was an initial vibration but it went away after a few months.
