I mean...is a launch from idle ok, or do i need to bring up the rpms
what rpm range do you guys find most useful?
    thanks for everyting,

I was gonna ask the same question, I've been practicing my launches around town at the lights, I hold the brake down and get the RPM's to around 2000 or so, haven't really tried to get them higher than that. Not sure what I should do at the track????

It all depends on how much traction you can get. With a stock converter it is more helpful to rev it up to about 1500-2000 rpms. If you try 1800 and spin too much just back it off a little until you find the happy medium.

maybe it's me, but my seat o' the pants meter doesn't sense that holding the brake bringing up to 2k and releasing brake/stomping gas is making it go any faster...it actually seems a bit slower, any thoughts?

with a torque converter should you rev all the way up to the limit? i rev just a little bit and get horrible wheel spin. i have since bought drag radials but have not made it out to the track.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

I smoke the he!! out of my tires and when I get to the line I stall it up to about 2100-2500 depending on the day. But make sure you get the tires hot, watch for smoke in your side mirror coming from the wheel well. Also this is done w/out Lower Control Arms. And dont worry about tire wear, I have about 30-40 1/4 mile passes on my tires and they still have plently of tread
            Good Luck

First, if you do this a lot (stalling up the converter) then I would suggest a tranny cooler.
For my birdie with the stock converter I stalled it n/a to 1800 rpm's and then let loose
Nitrous (because I would concentrate a bit more) was 1600-1800.

Gotta remember that the stock torque converter locks up at about 1800-2k rpms, so stalling any higher than that is a waste of time, might even bog you off the line.

Ike you've got mail! I have a question for you.

Edit: Actually the email just got returned to me because it says your email in "inactive". Here's what I said in it:

                          Ike,
Hey man, this is "TheBeast" from firebirdv6.com. I replied to your
post in the drag racing forum about how you would do in the 1/4 at the track.
I noticed that you have a '99 with Y87. I just swapped out my 3.08/open
rearend and put 3.42/posi in the back. Now all I need is a VIN from a '99
with Y87 to fix the speedometer/odometer. I already have one, but that VIN
is from a car with traction control. Does your car have traction control?
If not, would you let me use your VIN to get my PCM reprogrammed? I would in
no way give it out to anyone, it would just go straight to the dealership
I've been working with. They just need a VIN from '99 Y87 but w/o traction
                          control. Thanks man,

                          Nathan Alman
