• someone tell me how to launch a manual at the track!

hahaha, well i was double cluthing and getting a little wheel spin, and thats when i got my best times. someone told me just to drop it, and when i did that, i had my worst times. someone who drives a manual v6 camaro and races at the track please help me. thanks.

how exaclty did you 'double clutch' it?
double clutching is used mostly in cars with non-synchronous manual trannies (semi's, old model T's), and is used ricely among 'performance' cars today.
my advice would be to run it to 1200-1500 and drop it there.
worked for me

Zach, I think your terminology is off there. You can't double clutch a take off and there is no need to double clutch a shift in your car unless you want to slow yourself down. As navyblue said... that was for cars w/o synchros. Death to Fast N Furious for using that term.

As for best takeoffs... just practice and see what works best. Try dropping it at 2000 and see how your car reacts. May consider feathering the clutch as well.

Yeah. It really depends on track conditions. If you car is hooking up real well, dump the clutch for a quick jump off the line. But you might have to feather the clutch if you lack traction.

well i jsut want to go on record and say that i havent seen the slow and the rice, i mean fast and the furrious, so i didnt get the term from there. i infact got the term from my friend who drives a 93 trans am, he explaine it to me as taking your foot 3/4 of the way off the clutch, then back down a bit, then let off it. All very fast though, and both he and i got better times with this technique...like i said, i dont know what im doin, hahaha. but he does, so i dont know.

I actually would call that technique "coordinated feathering of the clutch". Whatever works though.

What I did to learn to lauch is practice... in your neighborhood street just see how high you can lift the front end untill you start spining your tires. This will help you get a good feel of the clutch; but like they said its all about the conditions. You realy dont give it full gas untill you start rolling pretty good. Good luck ;)

one problem with practicing, i cant speed in my neghborhood, or gun it wihtout speeing, people hate my loud car, and i hate "racing" on the streets because i havent gotten one ticket yet, haha, so id like to keep that record. but thanks for all the feedback guys, and i'll see what comes of it tommrow at the track.
