  • Feather clutch or dumP?

Just wondering the technique. i have never been to the track but every time I race I seem to dump the clutch kinda fast. I usually launch around 3k rpm's. Is that too high on stock tires? I also have the Y87 so I am equiped with a 3.23 LSD rear.

What rpm should I launch at? How fast should I let out the clutch?

    Thanks.

Dumping it, or releasing it fast is best for the clutch... Riding or feathering the clutch can result in glazed spots on the clutch disc. When you ride the clutch it's not fully disengaged.

There are too many variables at work to have a set technique that will work for everyone. Generally speaking, you want to dump the clutch at RPMs high enough not to bog the engine and low enough not to smoke the rear tires (The way I understand it is when you have very little tire spin you got it just right).

Many factors affect the actual RPMs in any situation, though, such as tire pressure, how slippery a surface you are on, temperature, etc.

Also, power shifting (not letting off the gas when you shift) helps your times also, just do it FAST and don't miss a shift! Actually, I would only power shift after practicing quick shifting with lifting off of the gas pedal first.

I got the shifting down. I dont like to power shift. It scares me with the nitrous. So I just shift really fast.

I would say feather the clutch if your running on some normal street tires. If your running drag radials or slicks i would dump the clutch. also remember a good 1000 rpm wheel spin or less is good. You don't want to spin over 1000 rpms from your original rpm launch. Typically you want your wheels to hook at ur peak torque. Im guessing around 3000k-4000k. so launching at 2500k or landing around 3500k is pretty good. Im not that big of a fan of high rpm launches. High rpm launches is a lot of wear on your parts plus you also risk the fact that you might over spin the tires to much since ur reving so high..
