  • and so the 1/4 addiction begins

Yeah, so (like so many others it seems) I went down the quarter for the first time this past friday. Don't know if I did well, or not. So many people on this board have mods, it's hard to tell how I fair.

My baby's a pure stock black '99 firebird Y87/W68, power everything, in full street trim, full tank of gas, and even Eagle GA's at road pressure.

Well, here they are (in chronological order, with notes; sorry so long)

    Run:___1st_____2nd_____3rd_____4th!!!__5th
    R/T:___1.774___1.681___1.030___1.229___0.845
    60':___2.327___2.303___2.245___2.217___2.242
    1/8:__10.179__10.129__10.045__10.006__10.033
    MPH:__69.72___69.73___69.91___69.89___69.76
    1/4:__15.847__15.790__15.696__15.664__15.719
    MPH:__86.41___86.57___86.68___86.46___85.77

1st run--kinda stared at the green light for bit...I'm not one to go on the third yellow, like all of my friends do; it's kinda cheating, you know?

2nd run--oops, left the TCS on...probably would have done much better, felt it upshift on me.

    3rd run--nothing special, from idle...when i saw green I floored it.

4th run--best pass! from 1500rpm car did the rest, not much else to say.

5th run--car was hot...and staging lanes were short (hey, it's my excuse!) launched from 2000-2500rpm (doh! stock converter) on green...good R/T, not so good everything else.

So, tell me, how'd I do (compared to other stockers and to other first-timers)? What should I change for next time? Thanks!

Your sig is the most important part of your message. Make sure that you list EVERY single thing that you have done to your car so that we can all go \'oooh!\' and \'Ah!\'. Please make your sig consistently longer than anything else you post. Please include your lengthy sig with EVERY single post you make during a reply, even if you only reply with a monosyllable grunt.

You did really good. When I first took my car to the track, my best was a 15.6 too. Your mph is kinda slow though, I ran it at 89 mph. I have a 2000 manual firebird though. Launching on the third yellow is not cheating. You can launch whenever you want, you just want as close to .5 as you can. If you wait until green it is impossible to get a .5, so launch at the third yellow or in between yellow and green. You did great for your first time, most people run 15.9 and 15.8 at their best.

      Thanks!
And now, of course, it's time for the mods...
Will it make my car less predictable?

good run. But how come like me his trap speed is lower. 85 for a 15.6 and me 88 for a 15.2. Why are people trapping in the 90s at my ET?

i think weather might have something to do with it maybe...
me and ike both ran at the same place though at the same time.
what was your 60's for your 1/4 time? if you hooked up really well i guess that could accredit that you have a great 1/4 time.
