• How to race an auto

Ok, got a 2001 camaro automatic, i think all i have to do is keep in overdrive the whole time, instead of just drive, but should i start off with the "SGS" button pushed? It will keep my tires from spinning right?

No you won't spin, but it' (SGS) will kill your torque. Lots of slippage, bad on tranny. I thought about using it once like a pseudo torque converter. Got shot down on that one.

Go around water...back up...burn up the tires so they are nice and sticky.
Go up to line...put it in "3"...hold break down...rev to around 1700-2000 rpm's...light turns green...floor it.

Only way to do it

ok, what has worked best for me is:

1) Leave it in Overdrive
2) Stall to about 1400rpm
3) When its time to go, GO but dont floor it, give it gas but not to the floor otherwise you have a good chance of spinning, once you see that you've hooked then floor it.

Seems when I just mash the gas I spin =(~ So I recently tried that method and it has worked out just fine! Give it a try.

I have seen no difference myself between overdrive & 3rd...

3rd helps you slow down at the end though, I leave it there.

As for your burnout, don't do one. Drive around the water boxes, don't bother backing up, do a 1-2 second spinoff of the tires, and your done. DO NOT try to heat up radial tires, you will lose traction. All you are doing is shaving off rubber & making hot/cold spots on the tire.

Launch, I have found that about 1800-2000 stall works best for me. When it is time to go quickly ease onto the gas (should be WOT no more than 1.5 seconds after launch).

I have never heard of SGS, but listen to AMinor

Later & good luck!

make sure you put it in "R" or race.haha and then give it the gas

seriously though..leave it in OD or D and stall it up till teh tires feel like they will break loose and then let brake go and floor the gas pedal....

easy as that
