i'm thinking of getting a full-faced helmet for track use. i've been renting open-faced helmets from the track for $3-$5. what a rip-off. do tracks check helmets for Snell rating? i don't feel like getting the Snell 2000 compliant helmet. i'm thinking of just getting a cheap one. i'd rather not wear one but have to obey track rules to run. what do you peeps have?

I have a snell 95 I believe. It is a Shoei motorcycle helmet. It is about 2yrs old. Why buy a helmet that may not be safe?

it's not a question if the cheaper helmet is safe or not. it's just the Snell 2000 helmets are supposedly safer. Snell 95's are cheaper and may not be as safe as the Snell 2000's but they are safe.

No, for this type of racing the dont require a snell rating. But like when I race my kart you have to have a snell rating of 2000 or better.Mine is a 2000. and go to a cycle shop and get a helmet, you can get some badd @ss helmets for like only 200 bux or less.

I got a G-force OPEN face SA2000 (SA has a fireproof liner and roll-bar impact test rating, M does not and is therefore 1/3 cheaper) for $149.95. GF750.
They make full face ones for about another $100 or so? Check Jegs for G-Force helmets with SA2000 ratings, as Summit has a bunch of old junk with 95 ratings. I figured, $75 helmet for a $75 head ... and i'm worth about $150.

You guys all have to wear helmets?? They've got some strict rules out there! Here at Houston Raceway Park you only wear a helmet if you run 12.999 or faster. So I'm HOPING that when the charger goes in, the helmet will be my next mod. :D
