Racing Question

I'm a noob at this but I was wondering would it be better to start in 1st instead of D or OD when trying to race someone?

I was told it would give you better off the line launches and better acceleration all the way through.

just start in D if you try to manual shift a auto there will be a stall in between shifts other people say that the get about the same times just what i have heard

well I ran my worse of 15.7 at the track doing that...if that helps you any.
