I sometimes watch drags on TV. Like when people loose traction up the track and burn out. They always mention they are running on 7 cyl. when this happens. Does the driver cut a cyl. on purpose? Or does somehow a cyl. just foul? I am just curious what are they doing? And why it happens? Anybody know? And on proffesional drags like this does reaction time affect the ET? I know it doesnt when I drag but does it for them?

Nope, reaction time has nothing to do with their ET. As far as them dropping a cylinder, it just happens. They tear down the motors after every run, most are toast after a single run anyway.97 Red Firebird
Best N/A 1/4: 13.98
Best N/A MPH: 96.13
Best Nitrous 1/4: 12.49
Best Nitrous MPH: 108.53
2001 Pewter Camaro SS
GTP Stage II Heads, Pig Cam, Holley Intake, SLP Headers, SLP Lid, Vigalante 3600 Stall Converter, MagnaFlow Cat Back Exhaust, Duel Electric Cut-Outs
11.26@121

normally what happens when they smoke the tires down track is it loads the motor more and they start dropping valves causing that cylinder to go dead which is why you see the unburned fuel pouring out of that cylinder...Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

In a tournament like Outlaws or something...they do add your R/T to the overall time in the end. As in the drag racing on TV...R/T is important. Yes it has no effect on your ET but for total race time they'll add the R/T to the ET.

It might be that when they smoke the tires--> the RPM's come up and the motor "bounces" off the rev limiter. It is my understanding a rev limiter wil cut the fire to a plug so it could be run'n on 7 is from that?I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.
The rest I have blown.

no slow-n-ugly...the rev-limiter cuts cylinders so it wont rev any higher...it has nothing to do with 7 cylinders...the time you probably heard them say the car was running on 7 cyls is when the car dropped and valve adn at that particular time it was only running on 7...Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98
