• How to get MPH up???

As some of you guys saw... I ran a 15.7 but at like 83 MPH I don't like that much. Since then I have put in NGK tr-55 Plugs, and Taylor 8mm wires... I have also changed the Fuel Filter... Is there anything else I can do? Could there be something to do with the transmission??? My 1/8 mile time is 10.0 at like 68? So I think it really justs craps out in the higher MPH. Any suggestions??? What could be wrong?

I had this mph when I ran in extreme heat with a badly slipping trans. I ran a 16.0 then. That was many many years ago. First time at the track too. I was always blaming it on the trans. There was ALOT of slippage. 1-2 shift took forever. I'll hopefully go tomorrow with a good trans and see if my mph goes up.

just firm up the shifts. you don't have to worry about missing them, like i did

I have a auto though.... And my 1-2 shifts seem good... But 2 to 3 is really slow.... I also have a TransGo that I have yet to have installed.

OOps... yeah... meant 2 to 3 is slow when shifting. Fixed

I'm running 15.7 at 87mph, same 3.42 lsd, no intake or exhaust yet. To have the same e.t. that I do and yet finishing at a lower speed, you must be getting out of the hole pretty good.

Sounds like a top end problem. If I was going to get only one guess, I would have to go with a possible exhaust restriction somewhere, which doesn't hurt on takeoff, but builds up during the run. How is the cat-back mounted, at the cat end?

If I get two guesses, I would guess timing retard coming in on top end for my second one. An autotap could pick that up, if you know anybody nearby with one. How you fix it is another story. Could be the engine being too hot, plugs too hot (heat range too high), bad knock sensor, poor quality gas.

Some obvious, yet not so obvious stuff: pedal not all the way down (the infamous floor mat mod...), letting off too soon, intake restriction at speed (incorrectly located cai opening, dirty filter).

The slow 3-4 shift shouldn't affect you at the track, since you should never get out of 3rd gear in the 1/4, but it could indicate a slippage problem in general with the trans.
