• 1/8 vs 1/4 times...please read

if i hit a 9.7high or 9.8 in the 1/8, i tend to run 15.1x in the quarter...but when i run 9.5x, i only got 14.9. shouldn't there be a bigger difference in the times?
i'm not really sure the exact conversion, i think i've got knock somewhere...

with the stock 3.23syou should have more of a difference.

YOu also have an M5, maybe you are short shifting, or waiting to long to shift. 1/10th of a second may seem like a long time in drag racing but its nothing if you shift wrong.

i normally run 1st gear all the way to red...then 2nd to 5500 or so, becuase it makes no power past that. but, that puts me down to about 3700 rpm in third gear, away from tq peak. then i let 3rd gear go all the way out, i dont think i'd get better times by going in to 4th really..but i'm not sure. guess i just gotta try different things.

Is double clutching the same as dropping the clutch?

What exactly is double clutching? I thought it was used in the old days before modern technology, when you would put the gear from 1st to nuetral, let go of clutch, push in clutch, and go from nuetral to 2rd.

double clutching is for road racing events not really for dragracing. its for downshifting methods. Also keep your shift points around the same RPMs. max HP is at 5200, so try to shift around 5400-5700 RPMs

Should there be a difference, no. The last 1/8 should see the same rate from run to run. All the difference is the first 1/8. All things being equal.

                  I doubt you have knock.

Thas an older car thing, not on newer cars with synchros int he tranny.

fastest way to shift in an M5, hold gas to floor, shift as fast as you can, with clutch floored the whole time. Double clutching will msot likely slow down your 1/4

only time I double clutch is cuz the synchros are going out on my tranny and doens't liek to go in gear when i am normal driving.
