I was challenged to a race the other day (which ended in both our cars having the dreaded SES light -mine for misfire -his for a burnt clutch) in which I was beaten.. twice.. by a Dodge Avenger 4cyl M5. This guy has been annoying me to death lately about how his car is so much faster than any V6 Camaro. I decided just to shut him up I would race him. He gets the jump on me EVERY time. I believe he jumps the gun from the start but it may just be a horrible reaction time on my part since most everyone I race seems to beat me off the line. Some of my friends suggested holding the brake and giving it gas to push it to the edge of slipping but not actually power braking. I tried this when I raced him the second time and it got me right up with him but he still pulled away faster than I did. Is it just that his car is lighter, a manual, and a front wheel drive that he always takes me from the start or is there something I can do or practice to get him from the start? He never pulls away from me but the best place to race around here isn't long enough for me to get pass him after he gets the lead at the start. What can I do?
