• Warming up street tires

IS it a bad idea to burn out on street tires before racing at the track? I dont burn out in the water but I did on the dry part, I swear that it made my 60' slower. And whats a good tire pressure. I had best results with 30psi but I tried 25 also.

Most street tires just glaze over from burnouts... thus hurting traction..

On street tires NEVER EVER EVER touch the water box. Save that move for the imports.

I usually just do a quick spin on street tires.. Get the gravel off and clean the surface a pinch.

Its also not a good idea to lower the tire PSI on street tires as much as your contact patch becomes deformed.

With COMP T/A's, I did however have good results from a quick 2 second burnout over the clean/spin method.

      Exactly what he said above.

jsut spin them a bit to get the crap off them.

If you have problems spinning the tires( I have seen alot of post about 3.8Ls not being able to spin the tires) jsut go to the edge of the box where a little water was "dragged" out of the box. I had to do this back when my tranny mount was borken.

If you have a problem spinning the tires, chances are you don't make enough power to break them loose... so you don't NEED to do a burnout.. just roll up to the line and dead hook..

You touch a radial tire with water and its going to shoot up into your wheel well... and drip back down on to the tire as you approach the line.

What I used to do is drive completely around the water box. Nail the gas and just spin them. No dumping of the clutch or power braking, just spin them. Come to the line and launch.

I also always ran them around 32-33psi. I always had better short times with correct pressures then lower pressures.

I can't for the life of me do a burnout anymore since I did the bigger turbo/injectors/exhaust. The stock converter can't make enough rpm to get the turbo spooling.

I think I'm making enough power as I've hit 119.7mph as a best so far. So it isn't an absolute...

Ahh, very true about the turbo spooler.

However we don't have many turbo spoolers here. ;)

I have a question. At my local track (1/8 mile) you cannot go around the water box, but they don't water the track when the let the street tire cars run. My problem is that there is usually quite a bit of water left in the box and I'm not sure how to go about this in order to keep my tires from getting real wet.

If you cant go around it there might not be much you can do. But if you do drive over the water make sure you burn out for a bit to get all the watter off.
