• My first time at the track

I finally got a chance to go to the track last night. I went with bpipe, and a few of his GP friends. What a great group of people!! Anyways it took me a few times to figure out what the heck to do, and you can see my results below. The car weighed 3360 lbs, and had 3/4 tank of gas. I've found the need for speed!!! :D

Run 1 2 3 4 5 6
Temp F. 71 69 68 68 68 67
Humid. 97% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100%
Bar. ?? ??? ?? 30.05 ?? ??
R/T 1.009 0.642 0.657 0.711 0.682 0.755
60' 2.183 2.376 2.395 2.380 2.280 2.244

1/8 10.229 10.332 10.315 10.523 10.137 10.011
MPH 66.57 68.73 69.01 66.78 69.18 69.11
1000 13.362 13.387 13.356 13.647 13.174 13.063

MPH 87.35 88.63 88.95 87.58 89.11 88.46

· Run #1 was first run ever, and everything in car. The same w/ Run #2.
· Run # 3 was w/o air cleaner.
· Run # 4 was w/o air cleaner, and as much weight as possible removed (ie. Spare tire). I did a burnout on this run, maybe that has something to do with the slow time, but more likely it was just poor shifting.
· Run #5 was w/o air cleaner, and weight removed.
· Run #6 was with everything back in the car, including the air cleaner.

Sorry, I tried getting the results to line up for easier reading, but can't figure out how...

Congratulations on your first time!!
(do you feel any different now...?) ;)

Yeh, the spacing problem is a pain. You have to use _ or . or something like that to hold the positions.

Well, your 15.6 beats my best na time so far...

I'm glad you put the filter back in there. The last time I went to the track, there were these old beater cars running with no filters, and they were 17+ second cars. I don't think taking out the filter helps any, and the engine will like you a lot more if you leave it in.

Interesting that your best time was with the filter and the other stuff back in.

Thanks John - I feel like I want to go back every week now!!!

I took the air filter out because I read an article that said it helped on a 99'...So I thought I'd try it. I'll be leaving it in from now on.

I think that my fastest time was more driver related than anything else. I'm still figuring out my shifting. I really think I can get a little lower et if I ever get the guts to power shift, and a little lower humidity in the air. But for now I'm pretty happy with the results! :D

Wait to it gets a little cooler outside and you should be seeing the high 14 low 15 mark.

isn't that a little dangerous to run without the air cleaner in?

It probably would be potentially dangerous if you left it out for long. I wouldn't drive around town or take any long trips with it out. I only left it out for a coule runs. I still have the MAF screen in, so that would stop any 'big' things from entering the intake. The reason I did it was that I remember reading an article from car and driver, or one of the other mags (I don't remember exactly which one), and they did this to a 99', and saw about 0.3-0.4 second improvment in the quarter.
