• How's your car launch?

Hey guys I have a 1997 Camaro. Its and A4 and has 3.08 gears so I know that I shouldn't expect great acceleration. I just wanted to know how you all feel about your cars that have 3.08's and 3.42's. Like what are your 60ft times if you have run your cars? Also what is your opinions on switching from 3.08's to 3.42's? Is it worth it? I would like to go to 3.73's but its my daily driver and don't want to loose a lot of gas mileage. Also I haven't ever heard anyone say that you can have your PCM reprogramed to correct the speed limiter and things like that. Thanks for the help. -Vic-

i have 3.73's and my launch is very good compared to my stock 3.23's, my best 60' so far is a 2.15 and that is with wheel hop and in 7500' air! i cant wait for the winter time..with urs bein an A4 i would put 3.42's, all i have heard is good things about them in the automatics...and acceleration will be way better

Hey thanks a lot for your input WickEdSix9838. So what kind of times are you running with that altitude and what you have done?

I too am a mountain racer. 4,400 ft. elevation in utah.

              I ran a 2.0 60' on 235/55 cooper cobra's and the stock 3.23's with all stock suspension and a 5 speed.

              I hate this elevation.

I've only had a chance to try to launch 2 times in my car with 3.42s/LSD/Converter Auto Tranny

I've pulled a 2.2 spinning and a 2.1 without power breaking! Should be a lot better once I find the sweet spot!

This is on 245/45/17 Nitto Extreme 555Rs

I had my stock 3.08's when i made the run in my info... I have LSD and 2.42's now but this has cuased traction issues and my 60' times went up about .1 on my stock suspension. I can tell theres a lot more power goin to the wheels. I now have new tires, SLP takeoff shocks, and the poly bushings listed and my new best 60' is a 2.35(still suckin though) It wont mess u up BAD without reprogramming the comp right away... But its starting to confuse my computer and it also ads false miles and thros off ur speedo about 10%.(i am going 60 when my speedo reads about 68). But it can be done. Its worth it.

Why are you guys having such trouble with the 60'. I ran a 2.0 60' on stock suspension and cooper cobra tires which dont even stick that much. I think some of you have some driving issues.

my car will launch pretty damn hard for the stock stall converter.. consistant 2.0's i found my sweet spot to launch on the old tires before they would be overwhelmed and spin to bad..if i launch it to high ive cvut 2.5's and spun into 2nd gear

hehe its all about finding the sweet spot

Man so of you guys are running really good. The best I have ever had out of my car was a 15.86@86.90mph. This was in the winter also. In the summer I only run about 16.0x-16.2x all stock with my 3.08's. I do know that the weather down here in Orlando, FL isn't the best at times. So I can't be that disappointed at times but man I want to see some 15sec. runs in the summer also. I'm in the process of making a cold air system for my car and after reading all of this I think I am defiantly going to invest in the 3.42's in the near future.
