  • Need help, first time racer.

    Ok I'm going racing tomorrow at Bristol Dragway. Anyone have any tips for me. I have a 5 speed 2000 camaro with a basically stock engine except k&n filter and flow master exhaust. I know my reaction time will be bad. Any tips on launching with a 5spd? Anyone ever run at Bristol? My friend is begging me to go but since I've never been I'm kinda nervous about it. Especially since it's gonna be on espn. Any advice for me?

      yeah every thursday at bristol they thursday night street fights. This thursday they said espn will be there filming it.

          Start out tacking low, about 1500 and dumping the clutch, if you hook, try to raise your tack higher the next run. If you still burn though first, I would then try to feather the clutch. I too am a little unexperianced but the key to the track it trial and error and finding the best way to lauch your car. Good luck

            thanks for the tips. Do I need to do a burn out before I stage? Or does it matter?

              If you have street tires, definitely do not! [img]smile.gif[/img]

              You'll carry water down the track and pi$$ a lot of people off while they shut things down to clean it up [img]smile.gif[/img]

              Just drive around the waterbox. With street tires you'd lose traction anyways...

                  You may want to spin them just enough to break loose to clean them off a but but that is up to you. Most street tires will lose traction when you burn them. Stay away from the water.

                    dumping the clutch off the line isn't that great. if you can..ride it out..so you don't spin. spinning tires while drag racing is bad. [img]redface.gif[/img]

                      This seems to be working for me so far...Drive around the water pit. Stage...Bring rpm's to about 2000. When I see the last yellow light, dump the clutch and floor it. I usually only get a little chirp from the tires and that's it. My 60' times have been about 2.2 seconds. Hope this helps, and good luck!!

                        Burning a little bit of tire is not always bad.

                        Go on the last yellow light. If you wait to green your R/T will suck.

                          Don't worry about r/t your first time out. Tomorrow is my first time at the track too and R/t is the least of my worries.
