• I didn't do so well

Well Thrusday after work I desided to drive 60 miles to Topeka and race my car for the first time. Well I just learned that I am not a very good driver. I only got 3 runs out of the whole night like 20 min. apart from each other. My friend told me not to show anyone my time slip of fear of being laught at. But oh well.
My best run of the 3 runs was
R/T 1.214
60' 2.264
330 6.648
1/8 10.292
1000 13.432
1/4 16.112
MPH 83.71
I have a 98 camaro with Y87 package 3in after Spipe exhaust with a flowmaster 80 series, Ram air hood, whisper lid, transgo shift kit and K&N air filter.
But I have very little tread left on my tires I had my speakers ( 2 10in. and box) my spare was still in there and my temp was just below 210.

I need some major tips on how to launch my car. As you can tell I must have been asleep at the wheel. So any pointers would be really kick *** .
I know I can do a lot better but it was my first time a the track, I still had a lot of fun though.

I dont have that much experience at the track but from what I do know, you should probably rev @ about 1500-2000 rpm, and to improve your reaction time try going on the last yellow light. Are you having problems with the tires spinning? If you are then I would suggest not burning out before your run (spinning the tires a little couldnt hurt). Unless of course you have drag radials. Also, STAY AWAY FROM PUDDLES!

bah he can still do better I pull 2.1s on stock suspension (minus a strut tower...which does nothing for drag racing)

Bald tires = ouch, fix that
Launch = brake torque to about 1800 then let off the brake and ease into the gas...enjoy

Hmm dude there is something wrong there what was the air temp?? Your MPH suxs big time. when I was in Denver which is 5800 feet my MPH was 85.6 with a 16.4 something is really killing your mph. your loss of torque I think is really your big problem.

Your 60' is "normal" for an A4 w/ 3.42s and your mods. It could be slightly better, but as someone said your MPH is really bad, indicating you may have some tuning issues with your car.

I'd put in a fan switch, get your temp down below 200. That's probably the cheapest thing you can do.

What about plugs and wires? I agree with the tuning suggestion... i think i've got the same issues.

Good luck.

Well I just put new plugs and wires on like 4 months ago. I know I need an oil change too. Some times when I drive the car it hesates a litte but I didn't think it was doing it at the track. And I should be getting some new tires soon. I will check the wires and plugs to see if they are bad. o yeah on the way there I hit 80k on the motor.

I think the temp for that night was 76 degrees and humidity was 66%.

Don't feel bad. Look at my time from my first and only time at the track. I'm crazy enough to put it in my Sig! I did add some subtle excuses though. Keeps me motivated until cooler weather. We'll get better with experience. :D
