• dad says i cant go to the track

I wanted to go to the track next week with some friends but my dad said no. He says that with 72000 miles on my car it will damage it. He says that i could blow head gaskets and blow the motor and yada yada yada. Do u guys think hes right and that racing will harm the car, or is he just being a party pooper.

Well ... he can say all he wants, and you can say all the counterpoints that you want ...
But, if you DO go to the track, and something does break, you're screwed. Things happen in racing. The best we all can do is try and drop the chances, and invest in safety gear.

I race occasionally and i have over 90k, just keep up your maintence and that will lower your chance of something happening. Usually before I race i change my oil, check my tranny and differential fluid and check all hoses for any leaks.

a lot of people say that 90k plus, is your engine finally breaking in..to where it is better for racing..but IMO doesn't matter if you have 10k or 100k, stuff happens, and just cause your engine has more wear doesn't mean thats what caused the incident if something did go wrong

I beat my car harder then anyone you will every see, I race sometimes 2-3 times a month between autocrossing and drag racing.

Personally I do not think drag racing will harm your motor, I am sure you do worse on the streets, but it is rough on the drivetrain, unless you have an auto, its rougher then normal, but not too bad.

Just do what I did, sya you are going to watch with them and race

hell my parents still don't know I rce a car that is still under there insurance, in fact they think I baby the hell out of it.

I hve raced my car at the track and nothing has every instantaneousy happened at the track, I put more wear and tear on th cr tht is about it.

I raced my dad's car at the track on night, and next day bam! entire clutch system crapped out, the car only had 7k on it.

Contrary to what people say about American cars, they will take a beating. I did a little street racing against friends in my Malibu with 90k miles for gods sake! It won't hurt your car to race it. What DOES hurt your car is if you always drive it like you're racing it. Bottom line is, taking your car to the track every once in a while and making a few runs will most likely not hurt it, and 72 k is really not that many miles.

I think he's a paranoid party pooper for the most part. Things can break yes. But if the car is running good now its not likley going to break if you take it to the track once. I think the odd's are with you on this one and your dad is being party pooper.

yea you can give it a beating, as long as you take care of it...however my car has been having P.M.S. lately.
power windows = shot again
power locks = only one door works
drivetrain - busted transmission mount
drivetrain - still nasty rattle in it
exhaust - piping is hitting the car somewhere
PCM - has ****ty GM program on it making it run like ****
Tires - bald as a mofo

argh...you can run it...but one day you'll be sorry

btw I drive it hard all the time 4,000RPM shifts in the auto...and I'm only at 44K...I need to cool it a bit

Who owns the car? Who's name is the insurance in? Who pays the bill if something does break?

Since you're 17 my bet is the answer is Dad - I would say NO also!
