• M5 Shift RPM Limiter?

Where is the RPM limitation for an M5 in gear? 6000RPM or is it lower/higher than that? I'm not a redline bumper, never done it - dont wanna do it - but I'd like to know how far the PCM will let me go before I need to shift so I know what to look for when dragracing.

Anyone have experience bumping the limiter? Let me know so I don't need to find out the hard way!

I'm pretty sure that its 5,700. I usually shift between 5,500 and 5,600 just so that I don't hit the limiter (plus the tach is a little slow so by the time you see it on the tach you are past it).

BTW hitting the limiter doesn't hurt anything. It's there so that you don't hurt anything by revving too high.

That's funny, a 5700RPM limiter on a car with a 6000RPM redline I guess thats what the hypertech unit is for huh?

My redline is 6,000RPM in my M5. It might actually be 5950RPM.

only one way to find out..go get yourself an after market tach and wire it up and ring it out in first.. someones gotta take 1 for the team..a few bent pushrods later(replaced by dealer) and we all know what the limiter is :D ..PS dont trust the stock Tach..IT SUCKS..way behind at WOT..

im thinking the limiter is at 6K..only real way to figure it out is with autotap i guess

I have also hit the limiter many times. I dont think its as high as 6100 but it is very very close to 6,000RPM. Like I said, shift before 5950 and you will never see it.

I've hit my rev limiter a few times. Its at 6000 on my car give or take a few RPMs.

I usually shift at about 5700 or 5800 at the track cuase my power would drop off after that with my stock pipes.

When I had my Autometer tach in, the rev limitter seemed to "fade in" starting at about 5800-5850 rpm, and was solid somewhere close to but not quite at 6000
