I've got a manual and ran a 1.8 60'. Wish I could tell you the secret though. I got some wheel hop for a split second which stopped me from spinning and the car just took off.

i was feathering because i didnt want to break anything, as i said my trans is f'ed up like none other. that and my street tires arent even good. i have REALLY crappy tires and one is flatter than the other. i got 2 nails in the one, so i had to replace it, so its uneven wear. in 2 weeks when i get the new trans that i ordered i will go again, on borrowed nittos and skinnies.
