Wait (I've never been down the strip, btw), you don't have to clear out you car to pass tech? Is there even tech at a drag strip?

I'm tellin you, half of the problem at Seguin on Wednesday nights is that they don't prep the track. That's how I pulled my kick-arse 3s 60'...hahah stalling it to 1800. Wonder what would have happened if I went all the way to 2100 There is also no way around all the water they put all over the place. Then there is the debris... I think if I go again I'm dumpin some adhesive on my tires

Hmmmm, ok, you must understand something, you can not just toss a high stall converter in and immediately run better times.
You need to learn the car all over again.
Burn out, tire psi, launch rpm etc.
He is running the exact same drag radial as I do, I find that the best psi for me is 20. You mentioned that they are brand new? How new, do you mean litterally 1 week old? If yes then they need to be driven around. I have found that any new tire always has poor traction until it has been driven around on the street for a bit.
Some converters like to be flashed and some like to be stalled. I am still learning mine and mine has been in for a couple months. I plan on trying the flash style launcyhing this saturday so we shall see what it is like for mine. Maybe the edge converter likes to be flashed or stalled, we do not know yet. Practice is the key
SGS? Please tell me you are not using this as a traction device? This, as you know, starts you in second gear which would be a complete waste at the track. Practice some more. Let the car start in first gear.
I would expect your car to get into the mid to high 14's with some practice and good weather.
I would also expect that the wind did affect your times because your mph's were low.
Don't worry man, just needs to practice a bit more
I'm still learning mine :D

one week old, yes.

when i was on street tires only. my nitto's could start pretty well without SGS on. don't worry, i'm not that moronic

ya, i'm thinking the lca's will help a bit too--i had a lot of wheel hop.
thx for all the help james, i appreciate it. so many people have so little faith in me now :( i will have to go back to the track to prove my converter and car worthy... thx a lot for your support

One week old????
That is a big part of it.
Also the weather.
Those two things alone could hurt you by .5 in my opinion
I would leave the drag radials on and cruise around for 1-2 weeks and get some miles on them.
They always have that new slick feel (know what I mean?)
Practice and don't worry, the car is faster than the times you have

once you get everything straight on your car, i see no reason why you can't run at least a mid 14 with your converter. i am going to the track this saturday to race in the thunder racing shootout to test out my new converter. i am looking to go at least mid 14's and my converter is way smaller than yours. good luck next time at the track!

Running a 15.4 from second gear?!?! Dude, that's all good, you just have high expectations. Your car is fast!
You've convinced me on edge racing. I'm just gonna get a 3000 stall because of your traction problems. My BMR boxed LCAs are already ordered.

that's awesome you are getting an edge! i hope you enjoy it...the lca's will keep your wheels on the ground too

quote:
Originally posted by NBMA4V6: SGS does absolutly nothing at the track. 1/100 of a second after you go WOT it downshifts to first gear.. no way around it. everycar does it.
i dont think i will have a problem, i will be using BFG's dr, BMR LCA's. get some miles on the tires and get some LCA's and your times will improve.

ya, the only thing is that if i started in first gear, i can't give it not-enough gas or i'll spin too much. so SGS on street tires for me is more of a timing-mechanism rather than a traction thing...it's the only way i can go WOT and get a little more traction than with trying to guess how much throttle to give the car when starting in first.
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
