Ask to check his motor out pull a plug if you get the chance, see if your dad can ride with him, use your flag man, find a place to race where you can put him in a ?bad lane? a few bumps or a pot hole at the starting line will cause wheel hop for him. DO NOT TAKE HIS WORD ON THE VETTE BEING BONE STOCK!! Would you take a knife to a gun fight? You know that Vette is runn? 14s? on a bad day, you think you could have a 14.6? If you want a fair race take it to the track and run heads up. I can tell you this, if the guy runs a 6sec dragster on a regular basis he will take steps to make sure some kid with a V6 doesn?t beat his Vette.

K I never said I wanted to cheat. And I did say 14.6 yes. But that was before heads/cam. Im sure im a bit faster now. And I was guessing that with my 75 shot and I will now be spraying 100. Im hoping it will go down this weekend or next. And yeah if we wanted a fair race it would goto the track. But the track is closed for the winter. So off to the street we go.

You never said "I wanted to cheat", but you did say "I will do anything it takes". Which does sorta imply that you are willing to do whatever it takes to win. I was just trying to give you some options.

How do you know this Vette is "bone" stock? It better have stock headers, exhaust pipes, muffler, heads, intake, transmission, pulleys, no computer chip, etc.

Look closely where alternator and other accessories are bolted to the front of the motor. Look for scratches in the paint on the brackets where bolts could have been removed and reinstalled. Same for the intake manifold. Maybe internals of engine were redone: blueprinting, porting, longer connecting rods, etc.

Could he be hiding N2O?

Take a real close look at one at a dealership so you know what stock is. If I had a 6 second drag car, I am pretty sure my "stock" Vette would not be stock.

Is it manual or auto? If manual, I know the 2K Vettes had problems with the clutch sticking when they heat up good. Not sure if it was fixed in 01, or how you can use this to your advantage. I do know one guy who had the Z06 clutch setup put in - which would make it not stock.

If you do race this guy, reserve the right to look over his car after the race to try to find any mods. If you lose you can always call him on the carpet if you find anything non-stock (that would void the bet right?) I would try to look closely ahead of time too, but I wouldn't tell him if you found anything until after.

If you lose, your Dad will learn not to bet on racing.

Yeah once or twice. I usually hung out with a few viper guys and a yellow Z06 up at streets though. I don't got to any of them now since I'm away at college.

When I drove mom's 00 c5 auto with 273's (or 276 gears?) drop top I went 13.301 with just a drop in k&n.
I am told the drop in was a waste and really won't gain any power.
Technically I can't call it stock but vette owners told me it really gained nothing. Now if I had a cold air kit then that is different.
With the right weather I could have hit a 13.2
With your car the key is traction.
If he drag races then he will know how to launch the car and get good traction.
Honestly I don't think things look good for ya (if he can drive the car being a drag racer)
If you grab however you will take him hard out of the hole and he will play catch up.
Actually I just realized it is a 2001. It then gets the ls6 intake correct?
That tends to give the vette even more pull against ya.

Still, a 13.2 is like a 14.1 in utah. I think I might have a chance. I will let you all know very soon. I want to race him after I get my new cam installed so it might be a bit.

pgriffith, do you have the stock clutch or aftermarket? If you have the stock, I could see this as a limiting factor as with the heads/cam/100 shot it will probably slip, especially with the sticky tires.

If you don't already, I would power shift to get the max power/time out of it.

Clutch is stock. Brand new in August, I havent used nitrous sense heads/cam swap but the clutch did not slip when I sprayed 75 shot before.

I should be racing soon. I barrowed some ET streets on salad shooter wheels from a friend and I just ordered my NGK TR6 plugs. I might race him before the cam swap and then again after. So soon as I get my plugs I think I will race him.

First of all I ain?t slamn? ya, I just would like you to win.
If you plan on changing things you better plan on testing-n-tuning before you race. Especially if you are planing another cam swap. Have you ever launched on slicks before? Practice launching an hour before the race. I would not recommend major modifications or changes before an important race, its not just the tuning but also the way your car will react when kicked. Just a though??..wasn?t there a guy who claimed a high 11 with a 200 shot? If you have all of the precautionary measure window switch or whatever a big one-time shot would be on my list. Of course it would suck to break and loose to this guy.
Give my ?cheating? suggestions a thought. I mean if the guy thinks your still running an 85 shot or he thinks you will be on street tires your still cheating.

I am telling you street racing is different animal. If this guy has been around racing, and is willing to race on the street, he knows the game. The rules for street racing are simple there are no rules its run-whatcha-brung and the best you can hope for is that slight advantage. If you are planning on just racing him heads up.....god help you.

This guy knows your car right?
He loves drag racing right?
He likes to win right?
Add it up man.
I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.
The rest I have blown.
