Post your whole timeslip.. we need 60' times and mph at least to help out.

Dont be too frustrated...tons of us had 16+ our first time out. Mine was 16.7, now im down to 15.8 without doing any mods but a fan switch.

Give us some numbers.,

Yeah hey man Phoenix sucks for racing... Not as bad as tucson, but it sucks. Its like 2700 ft altitude and the heat and general crappyness makes it like racing at a 6000+ ft. You can do better than that though because phoenix is a faster track than Tucson has, and I got a 16.2 without any more mods than you (And if I went to phoenix i should lose 1-2 tenths at least). Practice the launch, not bad for your first time out. Just think though, everything you do is in TENTHS of a SECOND. You best shift so fast you damn near break the shifter.
...Your granny shiftin' when you should be double clutchin'.... j/k
I was at a 16.4 until i started redlining it and blasting the clutch really hard. I was chirping the tires in 3rd.. (Too bad my launch still sucks...)
So work on the launching and speed shifting.
Maybe don't even let your foot of the gas. I usually dont.

I think its safe to say your launching is killing you :(

Describe how you launch... auto? Manual? what rpm? etc..

Damn dude your launch suxs majorly what are you doing dropping the clutch @ about 5200 or bald tires??? The launch is really killing you but so is the location I ran up hear @ bandimere which is about 6000 and cut a 2.5 time and ran a 16.4 so you launch is probably what is doing you in practice that and slam those gears, on some tracks you might even get a 3rd gear scratch :D

I really cant explain how I'm launching. I'm not sure how to do it right. Any suggestions would be helpful. I tried reving it to 3000 rpm's one run and i burned through first and second doing that. After that i just kinda feathered the clutch and let on the gas slowly so i wouldnt burn. I've got brand new kuhmo 245's on also.

It sounds weird that you are having that much trouble with spinning those honking huge 18's.

So if you rev to 1500, do you spin? Did you spin a lot on that 16.4 run?

The 18's will hurt you regardless. But you should still get better than 3 second 60' times.

On my 16.4 run, i didnt spin at all. On the third yellow light i eased off the clutch kinda like i would at a stop light and then went.
Any suggestions on how i could launch differently

theres the reason 60' sucked so bad!!! what you do is rev it up to desired RPM adn release the clutch fast as possible...i leave at 3k...some at 1800-2500, just see what RPM is the highest and doesnt spin very bad...

You could very possibly be the worst drag racer on the face of the planet.
