• Weight reduction of a/c removal within

So, last week I yanked it out and I finally got around to weighing everything:
Compressor: 14.5
a/c radiator thingee: 8.5
pulley and metal bracket: 2.0
silver bottle thing and bracket: 2.5
Misc metal and rubber lines: 2.0
Misc bolts: 1.0

Total 30.5 pounds off the nose
Not bad at all
Also it opens up sooooo much room under the hood
Pics will be posted sooner or later

Removing the AC is the next thing on my list, I also plan on doing away with the power steering as well, did you weigh your power steering pump? And also what size belt did you have to use when you removed it

As for belt size, well I have an idler pulley smaller than stock in place of the power steering pulley
And no a/c also
I think the one I have on there is 61.5 inches long?

yes slacker, thats very nice. you also have an auto and werent on street tires. i had my passenger seat in. and the ac wasnt really something i wanted to do...but keith was gettin all up in my grill, so i did it. not like it cant go back in. anways, last time i checked it was 20 outside...anyways, i dont think the ac made a huge diffrence, i couldnt tell it was out.

Edit: ac = passenger seat. the seat is like 20 lbs..ac is like 30...so bum bum bum i had 10 lbs less!

Like Zach said, you also have an auto and you were running on DR's. You say all you had were those things. But what about these?

Corvette servo
3000 Stall tourqe converter
MAFT+
port and polish throttle body

Looks to me like a little bit more than some weight reduction and exhaust/gears. This isn't a pissing match thread it was about gains from removing the A/C. If it said "Hey slacker, how did you run your times?" that would be one thing, but it doesn't. It's cool that you run decent times but there's no need to try and brag about it.

not trying to get in a war or anything, but a/c is unsprun weight. where as i don't think a passenger seat would be. so that would mean that the a/c means a little bit more than a passenger seat.

Way to Hijack a perfectly good and helpful thread  I think the whole point to this thread was James letting everyone know how much the AC compressor and components weigh to help those who are thinking of removing it, not who was the first to remove it and who made the faster run with it out. Thanks for the info James

That's a very poor attitude that does not belong on here. Instead of being green with envy and jealously, just run what he did if it's so simple. There is a reason he is #2 and you're #3, cause you're slower. Real racers don't cry, just run faster. I love how you mention his mods, but not yours. You said you had no bumper supports, yet don't subtract that 40+lbs, but you talk about his passanger seat. Seems like you have a lighter car so stop crying. And if you think having an auto is such a huge advantage to your manual with aftermarket clutch then demand a different timeslip page for manuals. You're lucky Keith is such an awesome manual driver and got low 14s out of your car or you'd still be in the high 14s. And lastly if auto is so much faster why did you swap a manual and at the same time try to beat autos. Seems pretty uninteligent. You have one thing, switch to another and then complain that the original thing has an unfair advantage to yours.

Are these the mods that scare you?

!airsilencer mod - no comment
!fra - you got the same
CPRA made by CP - same thing
K&N air filter - there is a top secret weapon noone has, put the Super Street down, it's not really 50hp
Ram air throught the grill - no comment
stage 3 race transgo shift kit - very confused why this is mentioned, do you think shift kit reduces times? I'm sorry for your ignorance
Corvette servo - you'll have to explain this one cause I'm even more confused by your ignorance
3000 Stall tourqe converter - that's a pretty small stall compared to most and you have a clutch
MAFT+ - he didnt use it, it doesnt work in his car, he gets KR, don't you read his posts
port and polish throttle body - this does alot with stock heads

You forgot to mention your 4.10s to his 3.42s. Pray to God he never gets 4.10s or you'll never even come close to his times.

Your whole thread sounds like one huge penis envy. Beat his times, till then shut it.

What's even lower is that he gave you props in your thread and you jump on his *** when he mentiones what he ran. Very low. Must be your lack of manhood.

Way to hijack the thread guys.. good going.

Some cars use 610K6, some use 615K6.

James, I have all these weights on my web page already.

Zach, you brought up the idea of yanking the AC.. dont' cry me a f'n river... pass seat is about 30lbs too.

Jame, unsprung vs sprung weight is just big myth. Think about the physics and your force vector. ;)

Scott, get lost. You're not welcome here.

Man i didnt mean to start a war over here im really sorry james for what my simple post has done to your thread. I am sorry. I didnt think we had some unsecure people like that on here i thought everyone was supportive if each other and the desisions that they made. I support the way he took out all that weight. As well as his 4.10's. But seems like i slept with his mom the way he posted.
