Weight reduction of fiberglass hood vs stock within

Stock 1997 pontiac firebird v6 hood: 44.5
Harwood bolt on ram air fiberglass hood: 34.5

10 pounds weight reduction, not overly impressive though.
The pin on is MUCH lighter, just under 20 pounds

w/ the pin on, can u still lift up the hood like normal, or do u have to lift the whole thing off?

Pin on hood must be completely removed.
Bolt on used stock latches and opens like a normal hood
Pin on is really for a drag only car in my opinion

www.vfnfiberglass.com has 98-02 stock non-ram air bolt on fiberglass hoods that weigh 11 lbs. that drops the weight a whole lot off the nose, plus makes it look like a "sleeper"

they might, check their website. if it's a ram air hood, it's around 25 lbs. cuz of the extra material used to make the ram air inlets and humps and stuff. I might get either a stock replacement from these guys, or a mecham hood cuz the mecham hood will look cool, weight less(but not nearly as much as the stock replacement), and allow for better cooling of the engine bay w/ the ram air inlets and heat extractors.

Not yet, the ram air holes are filled in from harwood.
But when it goes for painting I'll have them open them up.
Purge will be relocated to there

Call me crazy, but I would NEVER own a fiberglass hood...may be lighter, but for anybody that does ANY body work, the fiberglass hoods are a PITA to paint after a little sanding and such. Too difficult to ever get it nice and smooth like it came stock, pros have a hard time with this even.
