• Running 15.9, want to hit 15.6

I ran a 15.9 and my only mod was a K&N conical filter attached to the stock intake. My friend did ice down the plenum and throttle body and fuel lines when I ran that run. Orlando Speed World opens January 16th and we want to get my car down to 15.6 before we really mod my 3.8.

We plan to do the following:
1. Synthetic Rear Fluid
2. Synthetic Engine Oil
3. Remove Floor Mats
4. Remove Spare (done on the 15.9 Run)
5. Run under 5 gallons of 93 or higher
6. Over inflate the front to 40PSI
7. Inflate the rear to 22PSI
8. ICE plenum, Throttle Body and Fuel Line

Is there anything else we can do to get me to run his 15.6 in mostly stock form? I was thinking of mixing in some 100 octane in his 93 mix… We have added new plugs, we have removed his MAF screen and The car has only 40,000 miles(3.08 rear gears) on his 96 automatic… We really want to pull a 15.6 before headers or nitrous…

Here's my input from my experience with a near stock 3.8

1. Synthetic Rear Fluid ----- can't hurt.
2. Synthetic Engine Oil ----- good idea.
3. Remove Floor Mats ----- can't hurt.
4. Remove Spare (done on the 15.9 Run) -- good.
5. Run under 5 gallons of 93 or higher -- yes to under 5 gallons, but DON'T go higher than 89 octane. this will actually hurt you for n/a applications. higher octane = more power is a myth for cars like ours.

6. Over inflate the front to 40PSI --- very good.
7. Inflate the rear to 22PSI --- too low, you'll kill your top end if these are street tires. don't go below 30psi.

8. ICE plenum, Throttle Body and Fuel Line -- can't hurt.

DOn't mix in the 100 with 93... it won't help.

The only other thing I did for my 15.8 was attach an air scoop below my CAI. In this case, you might try a pass without the intake garbage and run with the TB open with MAF screen in, but I'd only do it for 1 pass

Good luck!

There has been a lot of discussion about reducing weight to get lower ET's.

If you don't mind the work you can start with:

Back seat, Passenger Seat, Front Sway Bar, and any extra stereo equipment you have.

I don?t think it would save much but the interior panels can come out easy.

You could nock off a couple hundred pounds and drop your ET .2-.3.

There are probably some other things you could take off for cheap and easy HP.
I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.<p>The rest I have blown.

what was the 60' on the 15.9 run, what was the MPH.. what was the weather conditions... these are important details needed in making a good determination on what is needed to improve ET's.

Also u got to remember that the more weight u take out more of a chance u will not hook but if u hook with the weight out u get better weight transfer to the rear to help out those 60 foots

Mustangeater--What's up?? I did read the posts on the CamaroZ28 BB. It's not looking good for my my car running 15.6. I'm going to try and go out next week when they open back up. I'm hoping it will still be cold, so the times will be decent.

I guess I need to get my timeslips from my 15.9 run. I think I'm going to get a decent exhaust(most likely a dynomax cat back, headers and hi-flow cat) then start spraying..

Take it easy, gotta go the kids are showing up for school..

I counldn't find my folder with all my timeslips in them. If I remember correctly, my 60' time was 2.39*. The weather was around 50 degrees(Remember I live in Orlando, FL.

I hope this helps.

hmm.. there is DEFINATELY room for improvement on the 60'... which should make your chances of getting to 15.6 much greater..

now another key facter, MPH.. mph is a good determination on how the cars power level is.

My MPH was 86.76 in the 1/4 that night.. Next time I go I'm starting to expect only to drop .1-.2 at most from what I've read.
