Hello what can I except my 1/4 time to be out of my 2002 camaro coupe 3.8. What mods should I do first to make my time better. Thank you

What transmission do you have and any cahnce you know your rear gear ratio, if you check the glove box should see some RPO codes, look for a GU5, GU6 or GU4

Gu4 = 3.08s, most likely if you have a Auto
Gu6 = 3.42s, happens if you have an Auto, little bit of an option
    Gu5 = 3.23s, on all 5-speeds,

I ran a 15.875, with some wheelspin in my dads bone stock 2000, 5-speed when it had about 7k on the clock, I see a 15.6-.7 very doable with practice.

if you ahve 3.08s and an Auto I woudl suspect 15.8-16.4, but most likely a 16 flat

    if you have 3.42s, a 15.5-15.8

    and a 3.23s, I guess the 15.6-.7 range.

All depends on your driving abililties.

As for mods, I would do exhaust and intake, first, maybe consider upfgradeing to 3.42s, if you have 3.08s, maybe limted slip. Lighter driveshaft is a decent cheaper mod, a torque converter will help you alot agian if you have a auto.

Jsut the basics, just rember alot of mods will void warranties.

good, luck, I am sure other members will have more info, I am more of a 3.4L guy then a 3.8L guy.

It all depends on what gears you have, like what MustangEater said, but I would expect a mid-15 (15.5-15.6) if you have 3.42s, and probably 16 flat if you have 3.08s. I had 3.08s stock and just had the 3.42s installed, and they make a huge difference. If you have 3.08s this is the first big modification you need to do (not counting, exhaust, intake, cheap mods)

Check sigs, not all of them are true but allot of them are. My first run was 16.533, my second was a 16.236, after a little bit of weight reduction, ram air, K&N, Lid, and exhause I was easily pulling 15.6's with a good launch I dont doubt I could hit 15.5 or even 15.4 but wheel spin and hop are killing me. Now with my 3:42's im really excited to get to the track. Ne ways just go out there and see what you can do, dont expect anything less than 16.4, because then youll either be satisfied or happy that you went faster than expected.

Thanks guys I was just curious. The car is my everyday car so I don't want to go to wild on the mods, but don't want to be embarrassed by my ride either. Thanks again

If it helps I have a 98 5-spd, luckily I have pretty much all of the factory performance mods available in stock form.

I made three passes at thunder valley, that's the closest strip to us, in noble ok. My best time was a 16.16 my slowest was a 16.8xx.

I think it was motor trend who tested the 1998 V6 and got a 15.1xx, but that was a brand new car, above average driver, and more than likely a "factory" car also.

Location and track conditions will play a big role in your times, so will driver ability.

I wouldn't expect a 15.5 around here stock, it all depends though.

I have 3.23s' with posi, being a 2002 and an auto I would think you have 3.42s' more than likely.

You can also look for your codes on the driver doorsill, that's where mine are.

It will also depend on where your car is tune-up wise, your tires, how many miles you have, and a whole lot more.

The only sure way to get an idea is to go to the track. Just don?t expect to break the 15s.

                    Oh yeah the mods

A lot of guys say go intake and exhaust, not a bad idea but mine are stock.

My money is going to the suspension; I don't see any sense in adding HP if I spin the tires with what I have.

                    So

LCAs, Torque arm, 1 piece DR, will be my first mods. I just have to wait on some time off to get the installed.

What size tire to you run? I have a 60 series, soon to be 45 or 50 out back.

By the way a good set of wheels will save you some weight, as will removing some interior parts.

And the list goes on and on and on.

Pitpens: you shouldn't have very much trouble pulling as good of a time as the car can get considering you have an A4. Unless you're getting tons of wheel spin they're not hard to drive consistently. With 3.42s, automatic, and LSD I would be disappointed with any 16-second et, even my first time at the track. You don't have exhaust I see. I would recommend Flowmaster 80. It sounds nice and performs well. Mine sounds pretty mean. A cutout would also do you well. I've tweaked my exhaust system over the past few months and it never ceases to be fun. Anyway, exhaust is the first mod I would ever do on any car, but that's just me.

Hey Slow-N-ugly: I'm gonna try to go to Thunder Valley this Sunday, but it all depends on the weather (Oklahoma weather is as inconsistent as a bad driver at the track lol.) I'm sure you can pull at least a 15.6 out of your car since its a 5-spd 3.8, but maybe I'll see you there. I pulled a 16.8 there a few months back before the car was broken in and before I had learned about the wonderful world of power braking Hope to see you there. Maybe we can run each other!

I hit a 15.5 @89 mph on a stock motor with 96k miles on it. That was with a lot of wheelspin and no 2nd gear synchro. I just got a LSD and 3.42's (not installed yet) so I hope to do a lot better this year. Sounds like you are going to be close the 15.0 mark with your mods. Of course you may hit the 14's with good weather and traction.
