• 95 Mustang Gt vs. My Firebird

OK.....i've got an automatic 3800 V6 2000 Firebird. It has a cat-back Flowmaster american thunder exhaust system, and i took the wisper box out and replaced it w/ a 3" pvc coupler.
this kid that i know (he's a gaint tool) is running his mouth that his 1995 5-speed hardtop Mustang GT would kill me in a race. His car is stock from what i can tell. I think he may have put lower flow mufflers on it, but it's not really that loud, so i'm not sure. how would i do if i raced him?

It should be fairly even, but it all depends on how well he is on the ole stick lol If it was an automatic, it shoudlnt have been too hard, what gears are you running?

I say it comes down to the driver. Hooking and shifting will be the keys to this win. With 3.42s, you should be alright, but do the normal things like removing jack and tire, half or less tank of gas, etc. Oh, and don't let friends ride with you... 150-200lbs in the middle of your car won't help much.

Stock gears can be anywhere from 3.08s to 3.42s. If you have 3.42s, it's a good chance you can take em.

if it's got a performance package on it, the GT has 3.55 gears and will sound a little meaner. be careful. make sure u get traction off the line and don't spin em. run w/ a 1/4 tank of gas, take out the spare and jack, and lower ur rear tire psi a couple lbs.

A 95 GT is in some respects the slowest GT made from 89-now. It's very heavy.

On the other hand, it's the last year of the 5.0 motor in those cars and they respond well to boltons. I took my 89 LX Hatch with 130K on it, and did headers and other stuff and went 13.9 on a 2.05 60 ft with 3.08 gears...

But back to the subject, he's a 14.6-15.0 car stock, but your only advantage is in the launch. If you spin you're gonna lose. Try to get him to launch too hard. I'd take weight out of your car and practice launching.

Nice! Wish I would have found GU6 on my door :( But from what I have experienced, at least in the 94-98 mustangs, the autos SUCK big time! Poor performance, blah!

clean2000birdv6 I assure u I am correct. In 2000 GM put that rear in a lot of V6 F bodys. Well its good to hear its a great head start with modding these cars. Good Luck

Hehe acutaly I was tlaking with a guy today and he said his friedn in a bone stock auto 95 Gt ran a 15.3, but a 5-speed is something to worry about. i woudl expect mid to high 14s depending on mods.

Yeah....the key with this race is the launch and the 60FT, because even as weak hp as at 94-95GT is, it's still a pushrod 5.0L with gobs of Torque. If you can get a good launch, and if you have 3.42's, he's probably running with 2.73's or 3.08's.....so it can be possible, you might just need alittle luck.

When you line up...burnout and rev the car alot...make him want to do the same...he will get excited and spin em. Thats the hardest thing for me driving an M5 is keeping the adrenaline down so i dont mash my right foot down off the line.
