i have raced my car since i got it, but i have only got really good launches about one third the time. recently i haven't been able to do anything but create terrible wheel hop. what is the best method for launching?

i pull my clutch back to the point right before it "pulls" the gear then floor it and let go of the other 1/2 of the clutch. took away hopping and sends me flying away.

and how do you not just completely melt your tire(s) doing that?!?!

I hold it right at the *FRICTION POINT* and have the RPMs right below 2,000 (this varies for every car though). on the second yellow, I let the clutch out 3/4 of the way and half throttle it or so...just enough to BARELY make the wheel spin...once you just *feel* it: let the clutch out the rest of the way and floor it. You have to do it more fluid than I just described it...but i didnt want to get too technical and didnt want to type more "..." which i type way too many of anyway.... From there until you trap leave it floored...if you think you can shift fast enough

Might want to check your control arm bushings also - they may be getting "egged" Poly bushings are a pretty cheap upgrade and should help a little because they won't deflect like the rubber ones, helping to avoid wheel hop. Wouldn't hurt to look at the torque arm bushing while you're crawling around (had one loosen up and then crack the bolt holes one time). Can't give you any manual launch tips, but just a couple things to look at.

I dunno I rolled through the light(red lighted) the one time I tried slipping the clutch. I get the rpms between 1200-1500 and dump the clutch, and go WOT as close to the same time as possible.

I generally have crappy RT's but have pulled a 2.18 60' on street tires and completely stock suspension. RT doesn't really matter unless your actually racing someone.

I'd love to figure out how to get 2.0 60's.

wheel hop can be stopped by a decent set of lca's. spohn makes a set of chrome moly one's that are lighter than stock for $125. that, as well as a bigger rear swaybar will help. people will say the 1LE bars are unbalanced, but if u just get the rear bar, u'll have horrible oversteer, so I'd get both.

I have BMR LCA's (tubular ones.) I use to still get wheel hop everynow and then even with the new LCAs, but after installing the LSD this weekend, i have not noticed any wheel hop. I am having to learn to launch the car all over again though. Will be a learning experience when the track opens back up. Will report results.

As for launching when i had the peg leg. Slipping the clutch was definately the best method. Dumping it always made it spin. You have to find the perfect way to slip it. Ive noticed it was a fine line between bogging it and spinning tires with peg leg. My best 60' was 2.2 on the peg leg.
