• misfortune and disappointment...(long)

finally ran the "hybrid" 3.4 at the track, to see what kinda times i could get.

    misfortune:
i get there late (lots of traffic) meet my friends, line up and get to the tree in the left lane (closest to the wall). light hits, and i hit the gas on the second yellow, i floor it..cavalier got a better jump on me cause i spun a little..i get on it and hit 5500 rpm, and powershift (hard crisp shift) from 1-2..and chirp go the tires, back end starts to move out like normal, and i hear scrratcchk..and all of a sudden gas pedal goes to the floor dead..air in it.

im thinkin "#@$!! i just broke my m-fing cable!! how the hell am i gonna get home!" - notice im slowing down a little, and shift to neutral and let the car coast to the end of the track.. and turn around and come to a stop on the side of the return lane. get out and look under the hood. the part of the throttle cable that holds it into the bracket on the TB broke and the cable popped out! i manged to fix it tho with a zip-tie sort of thing.

    disappointment:
after testing i line up against a friend this time in a 3.8. after hitting the water area and really burning out (they make you hit a water patch - dunno why) we line up, the light goes, get the second yellow and this time go all the way down the track, accidentally shifting to 4th at 3000 rpm (habit?) and finish the 1/4 mile with a 16.621 @ 80.730 mph (but at a 2700' alt). using LACR's correction method:

    16.087 @ 83.45 mph. (corrected for alt.)

hrm. timeslip (ill scan it tomorrow at work):

    Reaction: .951
    T1(60') : 2.469
    T2(330?) : 6.903
    T3(1/8) : 10.607
    MPH(1/8) : 66.291
    I4(1000?): 13.749

    E.T. : 16.621
    MPH : 80.730.

I think my clutch might be reaching the end of its life however, car doesnt feel as strong as it used to.

    anyway...theres some results.

16.6 first time out, at 2700 elevation?
    Don't be dissapointed!!!!
    Congrats man!!!
It takes lots of practice with a new set up
Hit the track several more times and with practice alone you could knock off a couple more tenths!!

At first I saw 13.7 and I'm like oh crap!!!!!
but then I scrolled down <---- me

    Seriously though, practice some more

    What was the weather like?
Traction? (seems like it was decent)
    Track conditions?
    Tire psi?
    Extra crap in your car?
Vehicle weight w/ and w/o driver?
Yada yada yada yada, all the good stuff, you left it out

Key thing is, did ya have fun?

ok ok. well ill have to go out to the track more. just seemed like i should have something better..maybe im just figuring on my last run. the stock one (or almost there) 16.509 @ 84.75 mph - with the 2.55 60'

      k. ill try.

quote:
What was the weather like?

      not to shabby. relatively wind-free, 3mph, probably around 40* F, and weather.com reports that the baro is at 30.36 - humidity: 65% - 23 °F / -5 °C dew point.

quote:
Traction? (seems like it was decent)

um well - i suppose so. i spun a LOT less than i did when i took the car out to carlsbad. i even floored it when the yellow hit (Second) and the car only spun the tires for like 1-2 seconds and then grabbed.. much better than spinning for like 5-10 seconds.

quote:
Track conditions?

track was clean, dry and pretty good. cept for the stupid water area they made EVERYONE go thru. they'd watch till your rear tires hit and then tell you to floor it and spin them (i guess to dry them out)

quote:
Tire psi?

32psi supposedly. i didnt let anything out as i didnt have a tire guage with me and not a whole lotta time to fiddle with stuff.

quote:
Extra crap in your car?

lesse. 2x10" Pioneer IMPP Subs rated @ 350w, 1x760w Pioneer amplifier, 1xRockford fosgate 1F Capacitor, spare tire, jack, wooden "box" to bolt amps to, 2x200w Jensen amps, lots of wire, full interior, cutout cap... think thats about it - o yea, the cardboard tube they sit in as well.

quote:
Vehicle weight w/ and w/o driver?

dunno bout this, due to the fact that i havent weighed the car yet. i figure i lost about 150-200 lbs off of the stock, so 3250 - 150 = 3100 + my fat *** = 3100 + 285 = 3385lbs with me in it and 3100 lbs without me in it.

quote:
Key thing is, did ya have fun?

o hell ya heheh. i just wondered bout the times is all.

its cool ill keep practicin. wanna see what i can do with the car. also rewired my MSD DIS-4 and going to try it out this sunday, then i gotta hit the track again and see if it changes anything. i would also like to weigh the car..just gotta go on a friday nite after like 10 heheh..

Yea Russ. You only got a few runs in so id imagine youd get some nicer times next time we go. My first time ever at LACR ran a 16.0. Got that down to 15.8 with subs in the back, spare tire etc. Next time im taking out the backseets and the subs. Cant belive KIons 98 GT Mustang ran only a 15.7 to my 15.8 haha. poor guy..

hehekind of a stupid question... but is the TB cabel on where it should be?

Wasn't it your first run where you brokeit, maybe it isn't on right and you are nto flooring it?

It was on right, and I was flooring it.

Realizing now why the run wasn't that great, and why I should have done just one more after rereading the post that started this thread...

on my last run, got a .94 something reaction (sigh) and a 2.4 60'.. and floored it and shifted at 5500(now in 2nd gear)...floored it shifted at 5500(now in 3rd gear)..all the while arnaldo's car gaining on me...got up to 3000 or around there (from the sound) and my brain farted and I shifted into FOURTH..

whoops. realized it as I heard the car dive low and come up frome like 2k rpms..watching arnaldo's car gain a lot on me.. I need to run some more. Maybe when I have some money. <chuckles>

i also need better tires so I dont spin as much, and could use a nicer clutch, I think this one is on its way out. Planning on getting a Centerforce when it dies.
