• convertible weight....

I didn't know where to post this so I decided to post here. How much extra weight does a convt carry over the hardtops and t-tops. I've heard they weigh a lot, but it cant be more than maybe 100-150lbs. Thanks for the help in advance

I believe it. 100lbs sounds about right.

Thats exactly what I'm wondering. Everyone always says to me that my car is slower than regular camaro's since it's a convt which I can believe to some extent, but it can't be that much slower I've always said.

it's the extra torque put on the car from hard launches. since the roof is removed it has lost a major structural support. think of a box that used to have 4 sides and now has 3 w/ out any triangulation of members. okay well to compensate for the lack of rigidity they add extra bracing underneath the car. there is your extra weight. but that's only like 100 lbs. were the lack of performance mostly comes from is chassis flex, the car still twist from the right to left on hard launches. anybody who has a conv. f body will notice their cowl shaking all the time. it's because it is not braced enough.

Well my coupe was stock. My convertible isn't. :D

what rob231 said, that is why subframes on a convrt. are a must. I put subframes on my coupe and I didn't notice as much of a difference as one of my friends did on his t-top car.

so if i put aftermarket subframe connecters on my car it should perform better while making it more rigid?

My 1998 convertible camaro weighed in closer to 3500 at the local track scale. They weigh significantly more b/c of the bracing plus the hydrualic pump.

The best time i could pull out of her was a 15.6, i don't remember the trap speed. This was an A4 w/ 3.08's w/ basic intake exhuast modds.

The subframe connectors will help more for handling & body flexing than acceleration.

Don't all F-Body convertibles come from the factory with subframe connectors?
