How does 120 pounds affect your time on the track? EXAMPLE If you were running 16.4 and then you added a 120 pounds to your car how much does it change your times?

Has anybody actually VERIFIED that? I know you always hear that (I have too - and read it) but I wonder how close it really is. I'd think a car that runs 10's would be different from a car that runs 16's

If you had a "hooker" in the back, would that give you better 60 ft times? :D Ok...it was a poor "hook" reference...

Its hard to say there is no exact formula.

Like said, if you did have 120 lbs. in the back, you might get a better 60' which brings up the formula, every 1/10th gained in the 60" is genereally 1.8-2 in the quarter.

Weight will affect your top end, so if the weight doesn'taffect your launch it most liekly will screw with your times, and the basic concensus, is every 100 lbs = 0.1, I have heard it form LOTS of racers alll over the world, with different cars, its not accurate but gives a good general idea.

It depends on the car, the weight, the rwhp, aerodynamics, it gets complicated sorta.

But basically let's say your car weighs 3200 lbs and you run a 16.4@83.42 MPH and you add 120 lbs...# wise you should run a 16.603@82.40 MPH. Now if your MPH is higher and your 60' is a little slow for a 16.4 ET, you might break even.

If you have a 2500 lbs drag car,120 lbs is going to hurt you more than if you have a 4000 lb land barge..because of percentage of total weight is less with a heavier car, 4.8% vs 3.0%.

Yea, with my gf in the car and her two friends, it doesn't feel nearly as peppy (even though they all weigh at the MOST 115 lbs ) But I don't know why im saying this, it is almost completely irrelavent (sp?) soooo I'm just going to talk about myself. You are reading this and can't stop, I know. I was once in my friends 91 z28 with FOUR other people LOL and we could def. feel a loss in the pickup, including the fact that my friend is close to 300 lbs but yea weight is a baddd thing... I was in a hotel room saturday and was on the third floor and looking down on the camaro, it was snowing, and there was a riced out eclipse next to it and suprisingly the camaro was almost the same size length wise from my viewpoint! crazy! hahaha tired

The rule of thumb, but not rpoven by me, is for every 100 pounds gianed or lost it is .1 gained or lost.
                    100 pounds ='s .1 (in theory)
