• First time at the track

Went to Famosa raceway this weekend for the test n tune. This is my first time racing at a track. I was pretty consistant. Three runs with the best being a 16.595 @ 82.14 and the worst was a 16.614 @ 81.64. Mods are in my sig. The only other things I did were take the spare tire and tools out of the trunk. Tire pressure was at 33lbs the first run and 25lbs the other two. Track was green and I was having traction problems with the open rearend.

    1st run

Next time I should have 3.73 w/lsd installed. Will this get me to the 15sec. range?

    work on the launch

you want to ease into the gas, don't try to slam it.

Rev up to about 1.5-2k rpms and hold it, when time to go, let off brake and ease into the gas quickly but smoothly to go wot.

The lsd will help a lot with traction though

I didn't expect the track to be as slick as it was. There were 2 accidents(5.0 and GTO) that day and a lot of lifts. No one was hurt but a little scary. I hate seeing nice cars wreck. Also the second run was a 16.597 not 16.595.

What size tire's do you have? I pulled high 2.1 to low 2.2 60' with the only mod being bigger tires.

I've got 245/50R16. They are the Kumho 711.

For my car (M5 3.4) it was best to rev to about 1700-1800 RPM before launch. You might want to try that next time. Also I really believe that 3.73's will hurt a stock (internally) 3.4L because of it's sh!tty power band. With those gears in the 5 speed I'm above 4500 RPM for most of the race which is where my HP takes a nose dive. Also if you look at MustangEater's times and mine you'll notice that he consistantly is about .2 - .4 faster than me, yet he pulls similar 1/8th mile times. So if you want my opinion, go with 3.42's unless you plan on replacing the heads/cam. Then 3.73's would definitely be the way to go!

Gears onn your auto not sure what would work best in a 3.4L.

As for the 60's I think you can get down to a 2.3 60' maybe the 2.2 60'. What you really need ot work on is your trap speeds. That is showing what is making the power.

jsut getting a better launch and improving your 60' with a 2.2-2.3 should make yo .2-.4 faster in the 1.4, and i think its attainable in your stock form.

heck I ran 15.913, with exhaust, intake and plugs/wires Just took lots and lots of practice, and perfect conditions

Also if I were you I would consider a 1-piece riveshaft, aluminum is better, but steel is cheaper

you pulled better times then my first 3-4 times out in my car and I had more mods and previous track experience.

I know I need to get my launches down. Like I said track conditions weren't the greatest. It was very green. :( As far as the gears, I just wanted to get some of my drivetrain done. I plan getting the driveshaft, corvette servo and shift kit done. Also the pcm will be reprogrammed. I plan to do a lot of mods, I'm just short on cash like everyone else. In the end I'd like to go supercharged. For now, all motor baby! If I can get a 15 flat all motor I'd be satisfied. Especially w/116,000 miles and counting.

Work on that 60' and you will see better times.
