it shouldnt matter as long as you have the gas pedel mashed to the floor your computer assuming that your car is a 2001 will read that you want to go as fast as possible so make sure you put the pedal to the medal and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

What about a '95 3.4L?
Sometimes it feels like I accelerate better when I roll into it rather than stand on it

doesn't matter, but I usually leave it in D (3) just so I can engine brake it at the end of the track. Just don't leave it in 1 or 2 and attempt to manually shift it, you'll run slower.

edit: oh you said street, lol, well it still really doesn't matter. Personally if I'm going from a roll, I'll attempt to hold the gear (e.g. if I'm going from a 20 roll I'll hold first gear and as soon as the race starts I'll upshift it to D (3))

Also if you approach your 118 limiter, at around 110-111 your car will attempt to shift into fourth if your in (D). Odd thing is that you aren't redlining 3rd gear yet. I'll hold D (3) all the way to 118 where I'm just arching 6,000rpms. I've beaten a couple of V6 F-bodies for 118 runs doing this.

If you are racing from a roll, don't have it in OD. Mine will shift into the next gear at 45-50 mph when its in OD, but it will stay in 3rd when in regular drive. If you are racing from a standstill it doesn't matter which one its in though.
