• My car ran weak

Went to the track today, good weather, 40 something degrees.
I made 4 runs, the best of which was 15.8 @ 87 mph.

My '60s were terrible: my first 2 runs I had 2.5 second 60fts. My 2 other runs (both 15.8 @ 87) saw 2.4 60's. My computer has NOT been reprogrammed for 3.42s, it still has stock 3.08 programming. Would this affect the 1/4 mile time? I've been told it makes the car shift earlier, but my tach didn't show it shifting early. On the other hand, I've also heard that our tachs are very inaccurate. Any input?

Tachs are a bit off on most camaros, I'd venture to say firebirds also. My car says it idles at a bit over 900, but in reality its around 725-730! Thats all the info I know what ya need!

Yea not having programming made all the differance in the world on my car!

It will make a pretty big differance although you should still be pulling way better than a 2.4 60'

Could be another problem there??

I'd say get programming or corrected somehow and head back I've heard a good .5 pickup once they're programmed correctly!

I didn't lose traction at all, the tires hooked very well, I don't know why I'm pulling such lousy '60s...

You need to somehow launch right at the point where you would lose traction, but not quite. If your not spinning, you need to get on it harder until you do, and back it off just a hair. Not sure how to help with an auto much though.

You prob bogged down pretty bad. Just floor it and see how bad ya spin and then let off a little each time you run to get an idea how much gas you should give it.

Those numbers dont sound bad for what mods you have.

times don't sound that bad, but with 3.42s you shoudl be fetting better launches...

The tires don't spin IF I TRY TO MAKE THEM SPIN
It just seems to be weak off the line. Could my 2.5" piping be taking away off-the-line torque?? My converter only stalls to 1900 as well, keep this in mind. Would a high-stall converter and correct programming put me down to high-15s, low-14s?

No the 2.5 in piping is probably helping your off the line torque. It's when people go 3" that it hurts down low.

Something is wrong. If you have 3.42 gears you should be roasting them off the line. My buddy has a 00 camaro with 3.42 gears and kills me off the line everytime with 2.0-2.1 60fts. That is with the stock converter too.

I guess my car is just weak. Oh well, I'll probably be ordering a new converter this week. That'll solve my '60 problem. The car doesn't seem to have any trouble with top end, I should get better trap speeds with the new programming. Anyone else with lots of drag racing experience have any input??

BTW- Thanks for the responses everyone.

EDIT: should I try stalling it LOWER, maybe at 1300 rpm? It does kinda feel like it bogs down or something.

Are you not brake stalling the car?

Like Radcat said, something isn't right. You should be hitting low 15s easily. I noticed your trap speeds are pretty low also.
