Personally, I'd say forget about attention and fame and all that other stuff. Do what makes you happy. Get a car that quenches your thirst for speed, not your thirst for attention. If a 13 second car is what'll do that, just weigh the options based on which one will cost less. You can buy an LT1 for $5000-7000 that'll run in the 13's, or you can mod the crap outta your 3.8 to do that too. In the end it's all up to you and your wallet. Personally, I took the V8 route, and man, the sound is enough to justify it, and believe you me it satisfies my need for speed. I'm not knocking the 6's at all, I loved mine. I just think that they're better suited to a quick and fun daily driver, that's all. :D

I personally stopped modding my car after looking at the cost issues compared to a v8. I just did the basic stuff and after that stopped. The thing is, a used Z28, depending on age, isn't much more than a used v6. The difference is bigger for new cars, granted. But if I can get a mid-late 90's Z for around a grand more (which is often the case if you look, check autotrader), than a 6, and amount to get a v6 up to that speed is far more, and the potential is limited, then I'd get the 8. Sure a 13 sec v6 is more impressive than a 13 sec v8, but to me, it's speed and money that make the call. Some guys here have spent thousands just to get into z28 territory. I like my car and the insurance is another considerations, but cost effective-wise, I'd skip strait to the v8, just my two cents.\'95 3.4 metallic teal Camaro- t-boned by an F-250, sold and still runnin\' somewhere out there...

\'96 3.8 metallic teal camaro

...Lookin for black 6 speed Z28 or Trans Am...

I remember when I first bought my V6. I was actually looking for a Trans Am GTA. Instead I saw the line up of Firebirds, Trans Am, Camaros and such and I thought that the base Firebird looked pretty awesome in that line up. Next thing you know I was driving it and the performance bug bit me.
I needed a V8. I ran and raced the car really hard till one day I ended up thrashing it after beating a Nissan Z. It sort of got to me that I didn't respect the car at all because in the back of my mine that I will be trading it for a V8.
Next thing you know I fell in love with it all over again. I started modding by putting in the blower, exhaust, and so forth. I'm happy with my ride.

I had a 1989 Formula 350 and my 1998 3.8 would dust it stock vrs stock.. I own a 1988 GTA T/A with the 305 and 5 speed and my firebird would dust it also stock vrs stock.. people say well those were weak v8's or it was only a 305.. That 305 has 215hp and 295 ftlbs and my v6 came with 200hp and 225 ftlbs and the GTA weighs 3400 lbs and the v6 firebird weighs 3340 lbs..Jeff ..
