Went to the track last night, and I was really disappointed with my first 3 runs: 16.0, 16.0, 16.1 hot-lapping. I was also running with over 1/2 tank of gas (stupid me, I overfilled) but does anyone know how much 1/4 of a tank of gas weighs?

I let the car cool down a little and upped the shift points with the HPP3, and closed the cutout, here are the results:

R/T: .746
60': 2.386
330: 6.628
1/8: 10.116
MPH: 70.82
1000: 13.132
1/4: 15.703
MPH: 87.76

I'm almost convinced that my stock torque converter is an unusually inefficient POS. The new converter is slated to go in next Saturday if everything goes well. The following Friday I will go run it again with the new converter.

Your 60 fts is what's killing you. Get it down to at least a 2.1 and you should see low 15s. I recommend a whisper lid also.

The performance off the line will be totally different after the converter, so I'm not really worried about that. I really do think I have a factory freak in the torque converter- on the weak side.

I have been seriously considering a Whisper lid, what kind of gains did you see from it?

Also, how much time do you think it could have taken off if I'd run with a 1/4 tank of gas instead of over 1/2?

Actually, an aftermarket converter can make it worst if you don't launch right due to the rear tires spinning alot easier. My car wheelhopped and lost traction like crazy before I got some LCAs. Now, I don't get no wheelhop. A lid should knock off a few tenths due to it sucking more air in. You'll notice it, along with a deeper exhaust tone. Get a lid, less gas and mainly LCAs and you should start seeing low 15s, or even high 14s with your setup.

are you spinning? that 60' is terrible. i dont think i would put a converter in until you work out some kinks on your stock setup. 2002 you should be seeing at least low 15s.

Don't feel bad, I was running 15.64 @ gainesville.

After a while I went to a different track, ran my 15.2 and never ran higher than 15.3 when I was giving it my best.

LCAs will help the 60' a lot for me, I was getting bad wheel hop... you might need some too. GOod job though, I know how happy you are to be in the 15s

OK I'm gonna ask a stupid question, here goes: can my tires actually be losing traction without making some sort of squealing sound at the track? I'm thinking NOT. I just can't imagine why I'm pulling such bad '60s with 3.42s unless I'm somehow losing traction without knowing it.

you dont have to spin much to get a ****y 60 foot I have spun before and it wont screach not like the street when you light them up

honestly you should be able to pull off a 2.1 60' even with an open rear hooking cause I did

that would decrese your et by about .4 if you cant launch with a stock conveter you WONT have a chance with a aftermarket converter

get some better tires and some rear suspeion although you really shouldnt need suspeion i ran my 14.4 with stock suspension and only intake and exhast

I stall it up to 1900 and let it go, it seems to hook ok. I pulled a better '60 when the car was cooler, I noticed that. Do I just need to let my car cool off a bunch? How hot do you all run your cars?

A couple of times I screwed up and didn't stall it up as high, and I got 2.5 '60s as a result

Should I be flashing the converter, maybe just punching it from the line as opposed to stalling it up? I can't light them up on the street, not even if I try. My car WILL NOT DO A BURNOUT...this is what is leading me to believe the car is just weak, do you think this is a possibility?

Jason how do you launch your car (or if you have an aftermarket converter, how did you launch your car with the stock one?)

Practice is the key.
I stall my verter up (pro yank)
Stock I stalled it up.
I like to have an engine temp of 165-170 as I stage.
You can spin and not hear the tires squeal.
Take a white shoe polish marker thing.
Cover a portion of the sidewall of a tire facing the stands.
Have a buddy watch you laucnh. If the white mark gets blurry then you are spinning.

The converter will make you VERY happy once you can hook w. it

OK, that makes me feel a little better. I don't know if I was spinning at the track or not. The converter is going in Saturday. You've driven with your converter in for awhile right? It didn't fry your tranny or anything? I've been told that it could by the guy thats installing mine. He seemed to know a lot in general, but less about the effects of converters on our particular application. THANKS
