• i was a little dissapointed...

somewhat in myself but i was told with a stock setup, i could run a 15.5 best. whoever told me that was wrong. i ran today. my only mods are a drop in k&n and triflow catback exhuast. here's how my runs went:

1st- 15.9(my first time ever on a drag strip)
2nd- 16.3(missed second gear :mad: )
3rd- 16.1
4th- 16.3

are these bad times for a 17 yr old kid with an almost stock 3.8?

also, i am looking into several modifications to add on

Practice is the key

Yes it's gonna take some practice. My first time at a track was an 1/8th mile track and I ran a 13

You just gotta practice until you get it right. My best run so far was a 15.3 with just exhaust and filter at the time. I consistantly run a 15.5-15.7 so your not too bad.

my first run ever was an 18.2 (spun the crap out of first gear, could not find second to save my life), then followed it with a 16.0, and have since worked that near identical setup to consistent 15.0's..

like James said, practice is the key!

one thing on my mind is the life of my car. how often do you guys practice? i find my biggest faults are just not spinning which hopefully an lsd will soon help with, and r/t's. all 4 of my runs. my r/t's were over 1, haha. and my lowest 60'(first run) was a 2.3.

Do you have 3.08 gears or 3.42s?

Look at the RPO codes on the inside of your driver side door:

GU4 = 3.08
GU6 = 3.42

Did you spin a lot at the track? I'm guessing your first run was probably the best because your car was coolest then. Try letting the car cool down significantly: shut 'er down and go watch for a little while before making another run, that can make all the difference. I went from 2 16.0 runs and one 16.1 run to 15.7 just by cooling the car down, pulled a better '60 too, although I'm still having problems driving the car.

Are you supposed to be able to spin your tires while taking off (with Open 3.08 gearing, of course)????

I can spin while power braking ONLY on wet roads (don't ask how I know, hey I slowed down once I got to 25...sorta' ;) ) , or going around a corner. Otherwise-NOTHING, no spin.

I think traction at the track is different from traction on the road. On the road I cant spin my tires also, only on wet roads or out of the turn.
But at the track on my first run ever i managed to get 6.2sec 60 foot time and run 23.2sec in 1/4 mi. I was spinning till 60 mph in thrid gear with A4 .

Same here, I can't even spin with my 3.42s cause of the low stall. Obviously I didn't spin with 3.08 open either.

i have a 5 speed which i think comes with 3.23 gears. i spun a lot on the first run and the last run but my second and third runs had no spin at all.and before my last run, i let my car sit for a half hour or so but it was one of my worst times, 16.2

i think you just need some practice.
