• Wooo!! Finally went to the track!!

First time ever. Finally. The last day of school, after taking my last final, I decide to go to the track (1/8 mile). I took a couple friends along too. So anyway, we drive four over an hour just to get to the track. I parked for a little while hoping the car would cool off a little bit. Courtney (1 of my friends) said, "I don't understand this at all, I just don't see the point. Why does this get you all excited?" aI couldn't explain it to her. So I didn't let the car cool much. I made 6 passes. For my first pass ever, I pulled up next to a 93-97 style Z28 in the staging lanes. We talked for a minute, he was pretty cool, and we were gonna run together. Buuuut, somebody drove up in lane three to race with his friend and threw off the order, so I didn't get to race him. Instead I raced some older car that sets up really high in the back end. I knew it wouldn't be a good race at all. He had 7X22 written on his back glass. So I stage up and wait for the lights. Here are the times:
ORANGE--Car-------7X22
1.117---Reaction--.837
2.277---60 ft-----1.678
6.658---330ft-----5.014
10.293--1/8 ET----7.826
68.07---1/8 MPH---86.54
I had one friend in the car with me (bout 200 pounds). He said, "Let's do that again." So I get back in the staging lanes and I pull up next to an Imprezza. I'm like, "WONDERFUL!" Times went like this:
ORANGE--Car-------SILVER
.911----Reaction--.710
2.245---60 ft-----1.937
6.569---330ft-----5.821
10.163--1/8 ET----9.093
68.93---1/8 MPH---75.50
Hot lapped one more time, had my buddy get out, and I pulled up next to a huge green 60's looking car, maybe a Pontiac. It sounded good, but must have been super heavy. Had him the whole track, my only win. Times:
ORANGE--Car-------131
.622----Reaction--.779
2.285---60 ft-----2.497
6.686---330ft-----7.244
10.394--1/8 ET----11.149
67.58---1/8 MPH---62.91
After that, I let it set a while. Watched only a couple passes, and couldn't wait to get back out there, so me and Courtney got the car and headed to the staging lanes. I ended up next to a heavily worked firebird. This thing was BAD! Times:
RED-----Car-------ORANGE
.732----Reaction--.508 <~~~~Wooooo
1.834---60 ft-----2.272
5.156---330ft-----6.678
7.904---1/8 ET----10.327
89.46---1/8 MPH---67.88
He couldn't get traction anywhere. I got compliments on my RT from the driver and then I found out what all he had done to his car. He opened the door and there were gagues all down the A pillar, digital air fuel mixture screen on the dash, and his passenger stepped out with a Lap Top computer hooked up to the car. The thing was heavily worked over and I think he said 300 Shot of nitrous. He had no traction the entire track and spun a 7.9. WOW that car was mean. Courtney finally started to understand it now. She wanted to go again. We get to the staging lanes and I'm next to a new GT, but he ends up running the car in front of me, and I ended up against a Cavalier. They had worked on this car a bit too. Intake/Exhaust/and a few other things. Then the track spotted him a little bit on the lights. Times:
BLACK---Car-------ORANGE
.377----Reaction--.621
2.307---60 ft-----2.256
6.601---330ft-----6.653
10.153--1/8 ET----10.294
69.02---1/8 MPH---68.07
I let the car set again for a few more minutes, and was just gonna watch the last few races before the test and tune part was over and the eliminations began. But when I heard the announcer say "The staging lanes will be closing in 5 minutes" I couldn't help it. So this time, we all 3 climbed in my car and went to the lanes. I ended up right beside a beautiful SS. It was pewter. He had a chrome decal on the rear fascia that said Silver Bullet. I red lighted.
ORANGE--Car-------GRAY
.487----Reaction--.847
2.282---60 ft-----2.278
6.640---330ft-----6.207
10.263--1/8 ET----9.169
68.20---1/8 MPH---84.40
It was a great night though. But the highlight of it all was this one C5 there. It was a red convertable with lots and lots of chrome under the hood. There was chrome trim around the taillights and around the door handles. There were even these little Z06 sized emblems on the fenders that said Lingenfelter 427 on them. Ahhhhhh. It was a beautiful sight. I was like, no waaaay, not here, not at a little track in the middle of nowhere. But yup, he popped the hood and sure enough. It was a Lingenfelter 427 Twin Turbo. He was running street tires and got no traction either. I think his best was a 7.5 or 7.6, he spun the entire track. I asked him how much he had invested and he said "About 100 and a half" He said he was putting around 610 to the wheels. Man that car was beautiful. I wish I had taken my camera. Oh well, let me know what you guys think of my times. The temperature was a solid 70 degrees, the elevation is 560ft. I'm pretty much a stock Y87, besides the MAF screen and the air bellows being removed and the K&N Drop In Filter. Oh yeah, the engine was missing a little bit too. plug wire 5 was cracked open, I barely flexed it when I changed them and it slpit all the way through the insulation. Oh well, new ones are on now.

Good runs. It would help a lot if you wouldn't run with anyone in the car though...that 200lbs hurt your ets big time. Good job though..

you're definately a tad slow on the 1/8ths...I'm always in the 9s at 70mph+

Also that SS you ran...eww 9.1, my friend's almost bone stock one pulls 8.5-8.6 @ 85.

Hey as long as you had fun!

Yeah, your mph is hurtin: my mph was at 70 when I pulled a 10.1. The et was hurting cause of a crappy '60. Anyway, you should run your car again and 1)Tell your friend to get out during the race ;) 2)Don't hot lap it, after the drive to the track let it sit for a half hour or so. I know its hard but it will cut time off. 3) Check your tire PSI: the master 12secondv6 told me to run 30psi rear, 40psi front on stock tires/converter. That's probably what you should do.

TO anyone one street tires, I say run 35 psi(about normal street inflation) and launch hard, if you are spinning then start dropping it little by little till you hook.

Amen to that. I always run at whatever pressure they were at for the last few days prior. The one time I decided to lower the rears I got the same 60' but a slower trap speed. Don't waste your time on stock tires.

Yeah, I know about a few of the little secrets here, but I do appreciate the advice. We were just out to have fun that night. This coming Thursday may yield new times. I was running with a misfire. Plug wire 5 was slashed. I could see the cotton looking fibers and with a slight bend I could see the wire inside. I've done quite a bit of maintenance this past week. Plugs, plug wires, oil, oil filter, cleaned the K&N air filter, flushed radiator and coolant, added new coolant, new thermostat (still 195*), sea foam'd the car, new transmission filter, changed transmission fluid, added trick shift (knock off version, out of the good stuff).
The car definitely seems to be running smoother, and maybe a slight bit stronger. But it definitely sounds like it's running much smoother. I will probably rotate the tires so the rears have better traction, and I will mess with the air pressure. Does anybody have any other ideas? I'd like to remove the spare tire and jack, but it's a 1+ hour drive, and I don't want to get stuck. Remove the seats? You can tell that the track isn't too great for traction with the SS's times and the Lingenfelter's times. I'm surprised nobody told me to take a camera this time around. I hope that Vette is back. What else should I do? I'm supposed to be going up against a 94 V6 Camaro and I want to annihilate it.
