Back from the track

It seemed everybody tonight was running a little slow (all cars). Mostly cause of traction problems, but I didn't have any (thx to 3.8L). I ran the following with my 99 A4

Run 1 (vs 03 Cobra, ran 12.207 - wow!)
1.045 reaction (waited until green)
2.459 60 ft
6.829 330 ft
9.747 ET @ 594 ft
10.392 1/8 ET @ 69.77 MPH
16.004 1/8 @ 86.56

Run 2:
0.756 reaction
2.442 60 ft
6.815 3350 ft
9.733 ET @ 594 ft
10.377 1/8 @ 69.85 MPH
15.987 1/4 @ 86.56

Run 3:

16.308 @ 83.48 MPH

Run 4:

16.039 @ 86.87 MPH

I'd say not too shabby, although it was a bit humid out (ended early cause of rain). I ran my dad's 02 Lightening and got 14.1, 14.0, and 14.1 - that was pretty fun.

Thats about the same as I did tonight, 3 runs, best was a 16.052 @ 87.30 with a 2.363 60', another 16.0xx and a 16.1xx (at least there is something to say for consistancy) but it was pretty hot here..

I ran a 15.9xx without the FTRA when it was about 60 degrees this past winter so im kinda disappointed [img]graemlins/thumbsdown.gif[/img]

Great runs. Wish my car was that fast. Checked out the pics too. Nice car. [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img] I need a shift kit and possibly a chip to get to the 15.xx range. I should be there in a few months.

next time you go to Moroso let me know. I was going to go last night but decided not to.

BTW both of you guys need to work on your 60'. I have NEVER pulled worse than a 2.30. I always pull 2.1x and a rare 2.2x. Learn to launch. Practice on the street. Stage up and go up to like 15/20mph, stop and repeat until you get it right. I could tell you how I do it but I don't think it would help because all cars are different in how they respond.

edit: wanna see a stock V6 launch w/traction? This is one of my crappier times (fuggin tranny banged the limiter on the 2-3 shift). I owned the guy in the other lane (off the line).

I had no problems with traction at all, even launching at 1.9k-2k RPMs. Not sure how to improve future runs, other than stay out of 100% humidity.

Same here, I was launching as hard as possible w/o spinning. Seems to me its all the car has to give. I've never hit anything below 2.30 in it.

I have heavy*** 17 inch wheels and didn't do any weight reduction.

99Camaro99, Y87 package means 3.42s right? BTW I'll probably be going back to Moroso next saturday for midnight madness.

Yes I have 3.42s and I ran my car with low gas and no spare tire/jack. WIth full weight I pull 15.3s. Maybe I'll meet up next weekend at Moroso if I fix my fouled spark plug.

Ok for launching...higher RPM does not necessarily mean better launch. My sweet spot is around 1600rpms. If I launch at 2000rpms I just spin like a mofo off the line. Test it out and experiment. That's what I did.

My problem isn't spinning off the line ( :( ), When I launch my car too high it just bogs it down and feels like a Saturn til 30 mph or so.

It seems my car does better (though I could be wrong) when I just get on it normal then floor it at 5 mph (the only time my dashboard cover-which I have yet to velcro down-flies into my lap [img]smile.gif[/img] ) I don't know.

If it makes you guys feel anby better form what I here morrosso has gone to crap in the last few years, didn't seem that bad when I used to run my old 2.8L there but haven't been there in like 3 years.

You should be getting better 60's, I would try a 2.2, seems very reasonable, if you can run something beside oyur 17 in. rims.

Judging by your website, you have a few bucks in mods yourself ;) Besides my car is getting old, nearly 75k. In addition to lighter wheels amd removing the spare/jack, I bet a good tune up would help, it has probably never been done.

Another thing I'm gonna do next time I go is deflate the tires to around 30 psi, I didn't do that either.

Edit: for MustangEater, alot of people tell me Moroso sucks too, although I've never raced anywhere else to compare. I do know you are lucky to get 3 runs in at any test and tune :mad:

you have a manual which =

a) shorter gear ratio
b) can launch harder
c) due to shorter ratio you can accelerate quicker in 2nd and 3rd
d) due to this quicker acceleration, you trap higher
e) faster acceleration = higher speed = quicker 1/4mi

Yeah I'm running an automatic. I took the wheels in my pictures off (18") and put my stock ones on, which get good traction (fairly worn down). I took out my sub box, my spare tire, ran 1/8 tank of gas, and took the jack out as well.

With FTRA, K&N, and a muffler (doesn't do much), I'm running consistant 16.0-16.1. I'm getting good launches (not spinning, in fact I've been unable to) and all that. I really don't see this car running anything better than what I posted there, with the current mods.

I have a hard time believing that a M5 will run a full 0.5 seconds faster QM than an A4. What's going on here? It did rain that night and was fairly humid (nearing 90-100%) but I doubt that'd hender the car a full 0.5 or whatnot.

From what I see, most stock (mine is pretty much stock) A4 3.8L camaro's are running right around 16.0 (from what I've read, that's even on the low end).
