Well, I'm taking my car to the track for the first time ever next week. Any advice?? I've been working on my launching and shifting skills, so I guess I'll see if I know how to drive for real!!

Hold the brake to around 1500-1800 and mash the gas on the 3rd yellow light!
If you let it cool down you will get better times as well!

If your on street tires there's no need to do a long burnout. Just give them a quick twist to clean them off.
Edit: I wouldn't take any drag racing advice from Shane (Nachius)

I'm assuming you've never raced at a track before with any car..
-Watch the tree with the lights a few times before you run to get down the timing
-Go when you see the third yellow
-Don't drive through the water they will be spraying right before you get to the line (assumming you are running street tires)
-Don't worry if you miss a turn around after you are done, there will be another one, dont turn around on the track!
-Don't get too nervous, remember to breathe!
Good luck, have fun and let us know how it goes

yep pretty much covered it...
I wouldn't play with tire pressure jsut sit at 32ish lbs in all the tires, and just get the feel for racign a little.
Break torque it and as soon as you see the 3rd yellow light, go, pretend that is the green light.
Also do you understand the stagin lights? Don't be afraid to ask, most people don't first time out. I'll explain it to ya.
And don't let off ever in a race, jsut floor it, if you lose you lose, if you are worried what other people think of your times shoudl not be racing a v6

Watch your staging beams/lights very closely.
The most embarrassing thing that can happen to a rookie is to roll through the lights during staging.
If you do the red light comes on, back up as fast as you can (remember to put it back in first )or the starter will look at you funny and point for you to back up.I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.<p>The rest I have blown.

Here's the New Racer page at SIR, the local strip. While some of the things are specific to here, there's some general process stuff that should apply almost anywhere..

If you're driving an auto, YOU don't need to be working on your shifting kills. ;)

Ok then I woudl keep the revs about 2500-3k, and ride the clutch a little at the launch, and start doing this as soon as you see the third light.
Keep practicing till you get to the point where you dead hook and launch hard. First couple trips you may bog down or spin, just takes practice to get the feel, helps a little to practice on the street, then on the track jsut slip the clutch out a little harder and go form there.
