What do you think I need? I already have 3.42 gears, and don't think I want to go any higher than that. What should I get otherwise, and how much will it cost me?

a few hundred maybe. You'll need a high-flow cat and 3" exhaust, whisper lid, maybe a thermostat and manual fan switch, some nice rubber. That stuff might put you into high-14s.-Eric
2002 Navy Blue Camaro...Striped and Stalled. 35th Anniversary SS wheels
Best ET: 15.384 @ 88.32 on street tires
Project Whitney: Goal, 14.0 1/4 by summer 2008.

I'll agree with him. I'm on regular street 245s and can't grip. I have full intake/full exhaust (minus headers) and run low 15s while spinning like a mofo off the line.

Take a look at my mods and you will have a vauge idea of what you need. You might want to refer to my posts about my troubles as well, after all the mods im still spinning hard off the line and pulling 15.6's consistent. And my car is pretty modified... dont expect 14's because they are not "easy" to attain.1998 Firebird 3.8, A4
Mods: Alum Ds, Yank TC 2800 stall, Rksport lid, FTRA, SLP air temp sensor, K&N, Flowmaster catback 2.5\" w/cutout, 3:42 gears w/LSD
Best E/T: 15.6 @ 86 mph (w/o gears / lsd or verter)
Best 60: 2.234
www.teamfoxfire.iwarp.com -- club site
To come?: l67 piston package hardened, turbo? spray? low 12\'s? well see

The only way you can easily pull high-14s out of these cars is if you have a factory freak like Toast and have exhaust, a little intake and you're trapping 92 in the 1/4. The rest of us have to work with the mods a little bit. A lot of it is driving ability and what day you run at the track. Learn the little tricks about how to make it run a little quicker, they add up. I'm still learning, thats for sure. For example, my last trip to the track should've seen 15.1-15.2, but I was impatient and ran the car pretty much right after I got off the highway without letting it cool down at all. Result: I only trap 87.2 and run 15.4. I should've let it cool down a lot more, and I would've seen better results. I may or may not make any more mods before my next track day, but either way I will run a new best. So far, every trip I've made to the drag strip I've come home with a new best 1/4 et, 1/8 et, '60, everything. You learn your car too. For instance, I've learned that with mine, letting it cool down significantly is good for .3-.4 off the 1/4 et and about 1mph trap speed. What I haven't discovered is how well my car responds to flashing the converter as opposed to stalling it. I'll see next time. Learn your car, learn your track, do things the smart, patient way (unlike me last time.)-Eric
2002 Navy Blue Camaro...Striped and Stalled. 35th Anniversary SS wheels
Best ET: 15.384 @ 88.32 on street tires
Project Whitney: Goal, 14.0 1/4 by summer 2008.

Yea I hate when people say that all you need is an LSD and whisper lid with 3.42's and 14's are right around the corner. Bullsh**!!!! Maybe for like 5 outta every hundred of us who just happen to have gotten a factory freak with 175 rwhp and also happen to live close to a quick track. Say you start off with an open 3.08 and you run a VERY good stock time of 15.8. You go get the whsper lid and now you pull a 15.7. You get the FTRA and now your best is a 15.6. You upgrade to 3.42 and drop 3 tenths and now you got a 15.3.The numbers Im telling you are based on time drops I experienced from hese mods. The only differance is that my car is a convertable and m track is very slow , so instead of starting a 15.8 I stated at 16.6 and dropped down to 16.1 with those mods. So your car is currently at 15.3, your only 3-4 tenths away from 14's. Where do you get those tenths from? More money and modding of course. It is not as easy as some people make it seem. Even if you have the money. I have the same goal as you.
I run 15.8 @ 86 with a best mph of 89 on slicks.
I have 3.42's in the basement w/LSD ready to go on.
I plan to buy an aftermarket torque converter, i pc alum driveshaft and slicks.
Those 'should' get me to 14's... if not... i'll be sad :D1997 silver Camaro RS
|T-Type Powered|
Looking for a local F-Body club in K/W, Ontario, Canada?

What can i say, my car is special.
;) Best thing that i can say is get your launch down 1st. Find something taht works (ie: where to stall it at) and stick to it. Always remeber to practice like on a back road somewhere to find the best rpm to launch your car at. It can be done just look in my sig for little mods taht i have and the time i went in the 1/4.2004 Dodge Dakota 3.7 litres of raw power!!
Nothing but a 6!
Do you know for sure? John 3:18

Yeah i know It was fun doing a one-wheel burnout for the first time though THey were Tealv6's slicks.. he was having a bad day so he let me try them as I was spinning a bit with my 3.08 open crap
