I ran my best in fairly warm weather. I'll run it this summer, but I can't wait to see what it does when the temp cools off. I'll be living about 5 miles from the track too! with a 2800 stall TC, LSD, 3.42s, lid, subframe connectors, muffler only i ran a 15.1. then when i put my adj panhard rod and lower control arms i was at 14.8. a long time ago i posted how just the suspension dropped me .3. unbelievable but true  i kept records of all my mods and track times like if it was my sole purpose in life.
best of luck getting that 14. i know i was happier than a tick on a dog when i got mine.6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

Interesting thread..
SixBanger, running high 14's is pretty easy if you race at the right tracks like US 41 in IN or HRP in TX. Weight reduction is very critical. Make the car as light as possible. Also make sure it can breathe, good intake and exhaust. Keep it well maintained with good plugs and wires and a clean air filter. Slap in a good torque converter and you'll be on your way to mid to low 14's.... at the right track.
Dirty8-un-Dreds, traction is critical to 14's. If you race at a crappy track don't expect to achieve 14's... Most modded 3.8's should be able to hook street tires at a well prepped track without problems. A high stall A4 or geared manual may need to use nittos. Street tires should be good to 1.9/2.0 60's.. if not, your tracks prep sucks.
Camarorulz, I don't believe in factory freaks. Just well maintained vehicles with good spark, fuel and flowing air.. People who have old plugs, or bosch super platinum ultra 2000 +4 plugs, or burned wires, or air filters so dirty you could assemble a bird with the amount of feathers attached to it, will obviousely have problems. A 160 thermo with fan switch and you won't need cool downs really.. Hot lap 3 passes then let it sit.. then do another 3 passes.
98GreenGLow, like you say, you need to race at the right place. If elevation is high, or humidity is high, or temp is high, or pavement sucks and you can't grip, don't expect to run quick.
I've seen practicaly bone stock 3.8's run 14's at US 41, IN in good weather.
Ravenp, like hawgs said, you don't need slicks. Slicks probably hurt you 2mph.
camaro_speedemon makes excellent points regarding 98greenglows car. Race a tank, expect to be slow.
nino, a 2800 stall TC is very small.. won't gain you much at all.. maybe .2. Subframes hurt in the 1/4 at such a high 60'. They are more of a 1.4 60' mod.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

yea. gears/intake/exhaust and TIRE will get you 14's. the best i've gotten is a 15.6, but thats with open rear and 3.08's. with my new setup and perhaps drag radials i'm shooting for a mid 14 or better.
plus like magnus said, track is worth a lot. i'm lucky and live near cecil country dragway. very good track. maybe not as good as HRP, or US 41, but its very close in competition\'96 Quasar Blue Firebird A4
jamiethekiller@comcast.net
my band: woodland

intake/exhaust and practice these are the basics you need to run high 14s.
I had 3" cat, 3" catback (dynomax), open rear, bald rear tires (22 psi), Jet chip when I ran my 14.7
P.S.
I also had a HIGH HP sticker... VENOM 6 sticker! :D 00\' NBM Firebird~T-5
60\': 2.29 sec.
1/4: 14.7 @ 95.5 MPH
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for me.

blue did you do any weight reduction?
i plan on hitt'n up the track not too long from now.. maybe late july.
i know the weather will be hot and i wont run great times.. but its just to see where i am at.
by late july this is what will be done with my car..
SLP CAI. full exhaust (in sig.. already done), good driving skillz, almost brand new tires. ngk tr55's gapped at .060, complimented with taylor spiro plug wires. brand new fuel filter, and HOPEFULLY an MAFT+ . i have 3.23's with open rear.
i dunno if i should lower the psi in my tires or not..
my goal for now in the heat of this year, is to run a 15.2ish...96 Camaro M5. What can i say, my car is special.
;) Best thing that i can say is get your launch down 1st. Find something taht works (ie: where to stall it at) and stick to it. Always remeber to practice like on a back road somewhere to find the best rpm to launch your car at. It can be done just look in my sig for little mods taht i have and the time i went in the 1/4.

Mine too, I trap 92 in the 1/4 almost :D I just need to launch better

Mine had already factory weight reduction. ;) I think the code on that is... 00 in all the options. :D Mine and will always stay street trim.(backseat & passenger frontseat will stay intact-- also the spare tire & jack)
You can lower your tire to 22 psi without hurting your tires @ the track, as long as you put them back to norm 32 psi when you're driving around town. Find your sweet spot when launching your car. I remember when I ran that time, my main goal is to run 14.9 or break my 15.2 runs before.

as small as it may be, i have proof of it shaving .4 off my ETs. like i said, i have records and timeslips of every mod that i did.
with airlid, muffler, subframe connnectors (didnt get these for track purposes, but had them on anyway, and it makes a little sense to note what had been added) i ran 15.4 consistently. now when i went back after installing the 2800 stall and LSD at the same time i dropped my ET to 15.1. 15.1 - where it stayed till i got the suspension upgrade.
i have records of everything.
small stall...yes, effective...yes.6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

you added an LSD as well... I'll be highly impressed if you go sub 15 with the open diff. That is what seems to me what you are lacking to dip into the 14's.
Then get some sticky tires and you'll be well into the 14's this fall in colder weather.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

If there are no factory freaks, how was I running 15.7 with 3.42s, LSD, and exhaust, while others with the same mods run 15.1-15.2? Traction was not an issue for my on my 15.7, 15.8, or 16.0 runs. How, then, can I only run 15.4 with a 3000 stall converter? Granted, I did have traction issues then...I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything, I would like for you to be able to answer these questions logically. My car only has 16k miles on it, no need for new plugs, wires, air filter, etc. Everything is practically brand new. Maybe when I go to the track I'm doing something wrong... I don't know what it could be. I don't have the best tires, but others pull better times on the stock tires, and my trap speeds suck, which leads me to believe my motor is weak or something. Whatever it is though, my times are pretty sad for my mods.

some people drive better and some people have better tracks with better conditions.
I "should" be running 14s with my setup if I was in TEXAS or the cold cold regions of CHICAGO. But NOOOOOOO I gotta be in the humid swamp of South Florida where the track doesn't even put VHT down.
I've come to the conclusion that my car is a street car ONLY...it doesn't run the same at my particular track.
