Evan started to get weird knock in 3rd gear after he put his 3600 converter in.
I would agree that there are no factory freaks... but what about Jason Morgan's magical 14.4 run with intake and exhaust only?
I still claim that 14.9's aren't too hard. Track prep is almost everything. My best mph is at Temple, but with a 15.23... At San Antonio Raceway a few weeks later, I ran 14.9's all night with less mph.
I've got a few more cards to play. I will be going to the track next Friday probably, and I'll keep all these suggestions in mind. I recharged my K&N a couple weeks ago and redid the intake to bypass the air silencer instead of just delete it, and I think the air flows better now (better quality ghetto air intake [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) I'm gonna let the car cool off at least an hour before it even touches the track. I don't have a manual fan switch or low-temp thermo, so that's my only option. Damn, I need new tires. :( Any more suggestions? Hopefully we'll see what it takes for a V6 fbody to hit 14s in hot July temps in Oklahoma. [img]smile.gif[/img]

KillerBeeCamaro, we're not mad at ya. I just think that conditions have to be da*n near perfect for any basically stock 3.8 to get into the 14s, period.
Oh, another thing about running 14s. If you don't do it consistently, then it was a fluke. I run 15s all day N/A, so that what I have, a 15 second car.
Gotta be careful when you read about the successful runs on this site. They're true, but they are not the norm. A nearly stock 3.8 f-body is a high-15, low-16 second car. Period.

The conditions were supposedly the best ever... but what you are implying is that any intake/exhaust car could have run 14.4 that day. I'm not sure that is true. I have run at HRP once. Granted the conditions were not the greatest... but it is not like it knocked .5 sec off my time.

i wouldn't say any car. his car has the 2285 stall converter. so that right there helps. i think thats the stall rating. his car would probably be a perfect example of what a late year camaro can do that.
the newer firebirds/camaros, i think 00+ got that stall. when i was looking for a new converter for my car, my mechanic asked me if i had the 18xx or the 22xx. i guess the "looser" converter myth isn't one anymore.

Ok I decided to look it up on GM Parts Direct just for fun...
Turns out there are two different part numbers for the V6 converter...
24213396 V6, 3.08-1 Gear Ratio, Exchange
24213395 V6, 3.42-1 Gear Ratio, Exchange
Interesting. Now which one is which?

My 2002 came with 3.08 gears stock and stalled at 1800, so the converter that came with the 3.42 gear ratio car is the looser one.
