OK i'm a little frustrated, i have a pretty quick 98 3.8l firebird and the other night i smoked a mustang... I don't know if it was because he had a 5-speed or what but he smoked my *** about the first 60 ft before i came flying by him. he made a point to tell me that his car was a v6 inbetween our first and 2nd goes and seemed surprised that i didn't have a v8 under the hood but how the crap could he beat me so badly off the line?

The SS did end up winning, right? If launched properly, the SS should definately win off the line, most LS1 F-bodies can eat GT's for breakfast.

I see no reason why the SS didn't beat the GT off the line as well, but any LS1 should rip a GT in top end stock for stock.

ls1's are higher rpm monsters. lt1's are lowend monsters.

To get back to the original topic, you need to take your gearing into consideration: the RPO codes on the inside of the door: GU4= 3.08, GU6= 3.42. If you have 3.08s I can understand why you were taken off the line.

I can take GTs off the line too. It's no big feat though. Our V6s will get eaten on top end though.

i out 60 footed an ls1 SS saturday, as well as a 6 speed LT1 bird.. it depends on the drivers, and what tires/ suspen mods you have..

how did you launch it.. brake torque it? go to the track and see what works best for you.. or get a g tech and go out on a backroad where you have a straight shot and no traffic.. thats how i tought myself to lanuch on the street ( but as i have said many times the street and the track are very very different)

You jsut need to launch better or maybe look into some traction mods...

I pretty much get most cars to the 60', or out R/t them and they fly by me after 2nd gear.
