  • I have some serious issues....

Alright, my car is really starting to piss me off. I ran the 1/4 for the first time last night, and had a best of 16.37. I've been racing 1/8 for the past 2 years, so I have some idea of how to launch ect.
    Here is the complete timeslip:
    60' 2.29
    330 6.719
    1/8 10.419
    mph 66.58
    1000 13.634
    1/4 16.372
    mph 82.29
-the odd thing is when I would get the 60' down to 2.25 or so, my times would increase?!?!

Now here is what is really pissing me off, some nights I run 10.20's and.30's at the 1/8 then on the next week with the same conditions, I can't get out of the 10.50's

My mod list is so extensive its almost embarrassing to run the times that I do:
Ported stock heads, 1.6:1 roller tipped rockers, headers, high flow cat, cat-back, cutout, FIPK, 3.42s and LSD.

Ironicly my best time (10.19) came with 3.23's and an open differential.

    Someone please help me!

I would think with your head work you would be in the high 15's. You've got more mods than me but you're .075 slower. Are you having any problems with wheel hop? I think my car is also a few thenths quicker than what I ran, but I start getting massive wheel hop with really hard launches. So far my best 60' is a 2.235 which I know I can bring down. I see your trap speed is about the same as mine. What were your other runs. I only ran my current rear end 6 times down the 1/4 with 16.6 being the worst with a 2.3 60' and my 16.2 run is my best so far. My car was doing the same thing with the open rear, but I haven't figured it out yet and I haven't ran enough with the new rear yet to see that happen, but I think it's a good idea to compare.

Do you think you were running faster with the stock rear end?

My other times for the day were usually in the 16.40 and 16.50 ranges. Mostly at 81 mph.

On the wheel hop issue, I don't believe I'm getting much, but maybe I just don't know what to look for.

I'm going to run a compression check on the cylinders here sometime soon, what psi should they be at?

I'm open to any and all ideas on how to get this thing running the way it should!

My best with the stock rear was a 16.595 @ 82mph. My trap speed stayed the same but my et dropped.

As far as wheel hop, my car gets a very harsh shutter in the rear like it's about to shack itself to pieces. Scared the crap out of me the first time.

For the compression test the weakest cylinder should be 75% of the highest cylinder.

My dad thinks maybe your p&p work could be causing you to run a little rich (increased air/fuel flow). Maybe the ignition system needs to be upgraded. Hows your plugs and wires? I'm just using bosch platnum plugs with napa wires.

Ignition wise, I've got taylor 8mm plug wires and new rapidfires.

I hear ya on the running rich idea, I need to have my O2 sensors checked out too.

Is there any set number I should be looking for in PSI of compression?

I was happy with the 10.19 run. But I just cant get the car back to that point for some reason, with either rear end.

I'm also going to replace the tranny mount because I get some harsh vibrations when coming to a stop sometimes.

I couldn't find any exact #'s for the compression test, just that general rule. I'll ask around and see if I can find any other reasons.

YOur 60's are not too bad, maybe a little room for imporvement hard to tell since you havean A4.

                how do you launch it?

                Have yopu weighed your car?

I think you should power brake it upandlaunch as hard as you can.

I stall it up to about 2100rpms, which is as high as I can go before the tires break loose.

The car weighs about 3250 lbs. This weight has gotten me to the 10.19 run.

My friend thinks maybe it's a torque converter thing. This seems to be an automatic problem.

I think it's the mods that you did. All of them are making the engine/exhaust breathe so well, that you are losing power. On a stock motor, these mods do you no good. GM built this motor very efficiently. If I were you, I'd add a big power adder to put these mods to use. Nitrous or a blower. Your motor is breathing "empty" air. Feed it with a major power adder now.

                        Could be true...

                        maybe add some juice?

as for exhaust I doubt its any more free flowing then mine.

Power adder will possibly come in the form of a turbo this winter. I'd like to keep away from the bottle with the crappy pistons we have in the 3.4's.

I'm looking to put on an AFPR here soon, hopefully that should give it the more fuel it most likely needs.

My theory is this (now follow with me, ok) since I added the 3.42s the motor spends more time in the upper rpm ranges, 2nd gear for the 1/8 and 3rd for the 1/4, which is where it needs more fuel. Since i haven't upgraded the fuel system in it at all, it's spending more time at this starved state which is reducing the ammount of time I have in the optimal power band for fuel.

What did you have in mind about the torque converter Harry94?

Thanks for all the replies guy/gals and keep them coming, I really want to get my car to make the power it should.

thats about the same 1/8s I used to run before the turbo, but I had 2.5 60s.

I don't think that's necesarily true about the fuel, gears, ect. BUT if you are adding a turbo by springtime, you should definately upgrade the fuel system anyway.
